Hi Moms -

My son has requested an angel food cake with sprinkles in it for his birthday. I have a plain white angel food cake mix and I was wondering if I could just add cupcake/ice cream sprinkles to the batter? Has anyone tried this? Since we will be having people over, I want to make sure it will work. Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I added the sprinkles last and quickly mixed and poured in the pan and it turned out great. Thank you Moms!

When I tried it before with a yellow cake and regular sprinkles the color came off all of the sprinkles. I think maybe they do something a little bit different to the sprinkes that come with the cake mix.

What you could do though, instead of mixing them all in the cake mix, like I did, put some mix in the pan and add some sprinkles, then add a little more mix and sprinkles, and so on. That way you won't be mixing it al up and the color should stick better.

Good luck!

It will work --they'll dissolve really quickly, so you have to put them in right last and only stir very gently and quickly before baking.

The easiest thing would be to just buy the funfetti cake mix at the store (Pilsbury makes it)and save the angel food for another day!

Go ahead and add the sprinkles!! All will be ok!

I make funfetti cakes for all the seasons by using the holiday sprinkles.. .expirament away!

I do suggest folding them in with a spoon after the batter has been mixed so that you don't chop the sprinkles up too much!

I used the Betty Crocker cake mix and frosting -I suppose you can bake it in an angel food cake tin.

angel food cake is very difficult and unusual to make, so do it ahead of time to be sure.

That's how the box mix of funfetti I tried did it. :)

I've used the box and frosting mixes for this, and it was fine. Don't see why you can't add whatever you want to angel food cake mix, though.

My suggestion would be to mix the sprinkles in with the dry mix before you add any of the wet ingredients. I just made my own funfetti cake for my husbands bday and I thought the sprinkles sunk to the bottom. If they are dusted with flour or the cake mix then that should prevent them from sinking! And have your son help! I sure he'd enjoy it and it would definitly give it that homemade look! Good luck!
