Hey all, my husband is flying out on Father's Day to be on a 9 month deployment with the Navy. We have a 15 month old son and I would like to do something extra special for him this year. Last year on Father's Day, he spend the entire day doing stuff for the Navy, we didn't get to do anything for him. He didn't even get to enjoy his first Father's Day. I would like to do something special for him this time, but I am horrible on ideas. I would love for it to be something he can take with him or something so special he will remember it for a long time. I am thinking about taking mine and my son's pictures and giving him that, but that is sort of boring. I would like to do that and something special. Does anyone have any ideas I can do for him?

Thanks a bunch!
S.

Can you write a poem? How about creating a short video and putting it on a jump drive that can be plugged into any computer. Would it be creepy or sweet if you gave him locks of hair or a snippet of the baby's blanket?

Before he goes do you know someone that would keep your baby overnight? Take him on a GREAT date Friday and celebrate Fathers Day a day early on Saturday.

Thank you and your husband for your service!

Will you have a day before he is deployed to spend together? If so, go to the park, the zoo, and take tons of photos of your hubby with your son, with you, all of you together and make a photo book. He will remember that special Father's Day even when he is old and gray!

You are fortunate - Army sends Infantry out of 12 - 18 mos. Is he taking a computer? You want one that has camera (the one at home needs to be a laptop) Make sure while he is gone "the guys" have dinner together via web-cam. (You can make a "coupon" for that) I like the picture ideas, too. There is a way to put a slide show on the computer for him....I even heard of one Mom having a full size cardboard "Dad" made for her boys could say good-night to him...

You could always do a photo calendar from Snapfish, Wolfe camera, or something like that. I do one every year for my husband for Father's Day and he loves it. You can even put a count down for how many days until he gets to come back home. You can even put little messages on different days like, "I love you. Can't wait for you to be home. We miss you, etc." I am sure he would love that

Thank you for your husbands service.

Hi S.,
I recommend writing a nice long positive letter to him saying everything positive you can think about to him as a Father and Husband. For example "Thank you for all of the hard work you do to provide for our family. Thank you for our home, food, cars, etc. and especially your unconditional love. Thank you for ..... Thank you for all the wonderful memories I have since we met". Put the letter in his suitcase before he leaves. Just an idea.

Since he'll be gone why don't you go get one of those key chains that you can load photos onto, take some great new pics of your son that he won't see ahead of time, and FILL IT UP with those, and pics of you and your son together, etc. That way it's not too big, he can pull it out when he wants to, and it'll be special to him. I'd get an extra battery too!
