Happy Mother's Day H.. I am 31 yrs old with 3 beautiful girls. I am also a stay at home mom. June 2006 I had a hysterectomy. First I was admitted to ICU to receive 4 units of blood because my hemoglobbin was 3.9 and you are supposed to be between 12-16. I did not have much of a choice due to my condition. I don't know what your condition is, but my experience was wonderful doing it. They left my ovaries so I don't need hormonal drugs. I wanted another child also, but I had to choose my life or be selfish and try for one more and who nows what would have happened. If it does not work out with you having one more and you have to have the hysterectomy be thankful for your 2 healthy beautiful boys. Being thankful for the 3 girls that I do have is the only thing that gets me over my hump when I get down about not having anymore.

My hysterectomy was vaginal and I highly recommend it. Your recovery is very fast especially with having the boys. The only issue I had after surgery was a lot of gas bubbles and they were very painful. I used GasX and it worked withing 2 days all of the gas is gone. I still bled a little bit for about 4 weeks after surgery. I love not having a period anymore, but I still have my moody moments and cravings just like I was going to have it.

Good luck with everything! :)

Hi H.,

You are very young to be getting a hysterectomy, can I ask why are you getting one? Have you received a second opinion? look at all your options first. My sister and I both have severe endometrious, after 15 years and the right treatment in Dec. I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, so don't give up hope, my sisiters dr. recommended a hysterectomy also I made her go for another opinion, and she has had a few surgerys and we both are on horome therapy, but she would have gotten the hysterecomy without the second opinion so good luck. as far as what happens you need to go on replacement therapy after the surgery.

Hello H. (HAPPY MOTHERS DAY)
My name is M. Gordon and I had a Hysterectomy February of last year. I had a huge tumor when I was pregnant and it kept growing with the baby inside of me. They did not think I would carry to term nor did they think I would carry at all. After the baby was born I kept bleeding and had to have 2 bood transfusions so they stopped the bleeding with medication and did the surgery 2 months after that. After the surgery I was kind of melencolly know I did not have the option for another child, even thought I knew he was my last it was the fact that I no longer had a choice.

Well the surgery was a success and I have never felt better. I had minimal pain and the healing was not bad either. I have s small scar on my bikini line, but I will not be wearing a bikini anyway so that is fine.

I think if you trust your Dr, and you really need to do this for medical reason it is the way to go.

Hi. I'm not sure what your issues are, but I would get a second and third opinion. There are so many options out there for uterine problems besides hysterectomy and many doctors do not like to offer those options b/c they may not be qualified to do them. I would find a reproductive endocrinologist (also known as a fertility specialist) as soon as possible to assess your options. There are times when a hysterectomy is the best option but if you are wanting more kids you need to investigate all your options. Please do not go off of what one doctor has told you, no matter how much you like him/her. If your issue is uterine fibroids I have a lot of experience with that and a baby success story so feel free to contact me.
Good luck!

Happy Mother's Day!!!!

I am not in your shoes. I think a second opinion might help you. It would not hurt. Why does he want you to have a hyst? Are you bleeding a lot? Pain? Is it due to the miscarriage? My best friend has had a lot, but she has endometriosis & I did, too.

Take care.
M.
