I Feel like I'm Way Too Big!

Hey, everyone! Okay, so I'm about 13 weeks pregnant with my second child. I've only gained about 2 pounds since I've found out, but you wouldn't know it by looking at me! I am very clearly showing! Really, I think my stomach is at least as big as it was when I was 5 months pregnant with my first child. I worked the entire time with the first one, and I stay at home now, so I'm worried about gaining too much. Does anyone know of any good exercises I can do? Also, has anyone else started showing so much quicker with the second child? My will power is non existent, so if I'm hungry, I'm gonna eat! Which has me worried! So any advice is greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone for all the great advice! I've been eating healthy, (with a couple of exceptions :) ) and I think I'm doing okay! I found my book, "What to expect when you're expecting" and I have begun to re-read it. Again, thanks everyone!

Hi J., I'm pregnant with my 2nd child as well. I'm 31 years of age and like you I started showing with this one when i was about 12-14 weeks, I'm at 18 weeks now and i feel like i'm 8 mnth pregnant. My doc. told me that some women show quicker with their second child than their first and like you i eat when i'm hungry. I hope this helps...good luck Danielle

HAHA....You are now going through what every other mommy of 2 or more has gone through. My dr told me that its totally normal to show much earlier with your 2nd baby. Its because your body has a memory and as soon as it figures out its pregnant,it goes right back to where it belongs. Don't even worry about it. Especially if you are only 13 weeks and able to eat whatever you want without throwing it up. Live it up and enjoy this pregnancy!! Don't even worry about it. Congratulations!!!

Completely normal. Your body already knows what is going to happen this time. Your uterus has already stretched once. It doesn't necessarily mean you will gain more or end up bigger - just that you will show sooner. Continue to walk or do whatever exercise you had been doing prepreg and you will be fine.

With my second child, I was already showing at 8 weeks and my regular jeans were terribly uncomfortable. I ended up gaining the exact same with both children (30-35 pounds). I stayed hungry also but had to choose things that would help. Sometimes I felt like I just wanted something to snack on, didn't know what .. get a piece of sugar-free chewing gum when this happens. It might only last 30 minutes, but it will definitely curb your need to eat something maybe until a meal time. Get some cheese cubes and snack on one or two (white cheese are better for you). A palmful of nuts. I was told by a friend that she couldn't control her appetite while she was pregnant but she could control what she ate and it helped me to use that thinking. It is sooo hard, but it does help to try. It's better for us and baby too. Congratulations and good luck!!

I'm not on to #2 yet. :( But I have heard that you start showing earlier with the second. As far as the weight gain goes, I am not one to talk, because I gained 40 lbs. & after 3 years am still struggling to get back to normal. But what I would do the next time around is have something healthy available at all times. Like a vegetable platter prepared in the fridge or some nuts or dried fruit. Often I end up eating junk food because it takes little to no preparation while with vegetables & fruit, you have to clean & cut them. If you do the work ahead of time & have some easy healthy foods available you're more likely to eat them. Also, if possible, don't buy junk food at all & if you must put it somewhere out of the way where you don't see it all the time & it's harder to get to. Another thought is that sometimes when you think you're hungry, you may just be thirsty. So drink lots of water & maybe try that before reaching for that 3rd "lunch". :)

Right there with you! Pay attention more to the weight gain than the size - that's what is the true indicator. Different carrying and the fact that you are pregnant for the 2nd time can make a lot of difference. Be encouraged - it's normal!

Congratulations on the new addition! Every pregnancy is different, but I wouldn't worry about the weight. I gained 55 with my second which was A LOT, and with the third I have only gained a few pounds and I am over half way done. First off, 2 pounds is completely normal weight gain for 13 weeks. And like others said, you show earlier with each pregnancy. I had someone ask me if I was pregnant the week after I found out about #3...and I was 5 weeks! The only reason I decided to take a pregnancy test in the first place, was because I looked in the mirror one morning and looked pregnant which was at 3 weeks.

I showed much earlier with my second pregnancy than my first. It's normal, because your body is already stretched out from your first pregnancy and knows better what to do this time around. I finished my first pregnancy as a large; I finished this most recent one an extra-large and nearly outgrew that! However, my finishing weight was no more than five pounds higher than my finishing weight for my first pregnancy; so the appearance of size is not necessarily an accurate reflection of your actual weight gain.

If you're worried about what to eat, remember you and the baby need the energy. I was told about the Brewer (or Bradley) diet to prevent eclampsia (which I got my first pregnancy), and I stuck to it for the last five months of this second pregnancy, and my son weighed 8 lb 8 oz and is ALL MUSCLE. He's 12 days old and can hold his head up. :-Z And I was very healthy throughout the pregnancy and had greater energy than with my first time through. I've included an article about the diet and also a list that you can print out and tape to your fridge. I'm convinced my baby and I are so healthy this time around because I followed this diet. Don't skimp on eating; just be wiser in what you choose to eat. :)

Don't worry, I got bigger with my 2nd child faster and than even faster with my third and fourth ( actually my stomach is what made me take the pegnancy test with my fourth because I was still nursing and not having periods.) You got nothing to worry about just because you are showing sooner doesnt meen this baby is gonna be huge....in the end you will look prety much the same as you did with your daughter.

This happened to me to, I felt like one day I was wearing regular clothes and the next I was telling the world I was pregnant. I also felt like I grew in spurts. Your body knows where it is going. And your weight gain tells you the true indicator of your progress. If you are eating healthy foods you won't gain as much, it is of course better for the baby growing inside you, and it will be easier to lose the weight when your baby is born. Please don't worry about getting too big, just take care of your baby. It is good to be healthy and exercise but don't limit your food intake. Walking is always good exercise. and maybe doing weights on your arms will keep them toned. Just release yourself to the miracle!

Hello J.. When I was pregnant with my second child I showed really quick. You will grow more and fast with your second child. Your body is prepared for all of it. Just remember pregnant or not you are beautiful. The pregnancy just gives you a glow that makes your even more beautiful.
You need to eat when you are hungry. Best advice I got when I was pregnant was to eat lots of little meals instead of three big meals. That way when I was hungry I could eat something small. Then an hour later I could eat something else and not feel quilty of over eating.
Walking is a good excerise when pregnant or swimming. You should always check with your doctor before doing too many different excersises.
Keep little snacks of fruit, vegetables around when you are hungry. I kept water and granola bars around at night when I got up and was hungry.
I hope this helps. If you need any more advice let me know.

Sorry, those ligaments are stretched now. You'll start showing quicker everytime now. All I can suggest, if you don't already, is breastfeed when the baby is born. That will help contract those muscles back into place alot quicker, as well as help the baby!

With my first pregnancy, I didn't have strangers commenting on my pregnancy until I was 7 months along. With my second pregnancy, I had a stranger comment when I was 7 WEEKS, yes, that's WEEKS! I think because your body has done it all before, it just stretches much more quickly. The GOOD news, is that labor is often a lot easier the second time around for the same reason! Have a wonderful pregnancy and eat healthy, walk and dance with your daughter and you will be good to go!

Yes, you always show faster with your second pregnancy.

If you are hungry, you SHOULD eat!! Just keep buying healthy things so those are your only options. And if you're craving unhealthy things, think about what your body is telling you it actually needs. If you're craving ice cream, chances are, your body is calling for calcium. In that case, start eating those leafy greens and you'll find that craving going away. (And in that moment, maybe munch on some sesame seeds for an immediate snack.)

Get active with your daughter. Maybe institute a daily dance party as part of your daily routine! Or the usual, go for walks. I got a membership at the gym last winter and all I did was walk laps with a book in my hands. It was great! You could take your daughter and make it "healthy habits" time. Three is not too young to walk laps for half an hour.

Don't do any special exercises that aren't approved by your professional pregnancy health care provider. SERIOUSLY.

Have fun!
