I Think I Need a New Furnace! Who Should I Call?

Well, actually I need a boiler. It's a very old house with radiator heat. The boiler we have now is very old and I don't think it's going to make it through another winter. Does anyone know a reputable company I can contact? Also, do any of these companies offer financing? We are going to have a tough time paying for the whole thing up front with our budget.

What can I do next?

We have always used Enright's Heating and air. ###-###-#### They are great and everyone is super nice. We needed a new ac unit a few yrs ago and we were able to finance it. Hope that helps.

radiators are pretty sturdy and last a very long time...is it knocking...our boiler is a few decades old, and has been in a few floods....we just bleed the radiators before we turn them on...sometimes too much air in the pipes can cause them to not work and heat up...u're heaters should have a key which opens the valves..this way u can bleed em..or let the air out....my sister replaced hers...she just bought one at sears and my dad put it in...so I guess its a pretty simple...if your not sure...then you would have to call a plumber...or check craigslist.com for services offered...there are a lot of handy guys looking for side jobs and have reasonable fees....hope the info helps...

Hi,

Call the City of Chicago 311 (I don't remember the exact dept. now)....they used to have a program that would provide new furnaces (at no cost)to residents.

I grew up with radiators. My parents just recently replaced theirs last winter and it probably would have lasted a little longer. But, either way you can call a heating company (HVAC?) and get it checked out. If they say to replace it, get a second opinion. You would be surprised how long a boiler will last when it is taken care of. They can even show you the right way to bleed the radiators. If you do have to replace it--no way to last longer--I would definitely get it done soon since it will cost more in the winter and get at least 3 estimates so you are not taken for a ride.
