I Think Nightmares

My 14 month little girl goes to bed between 7 pm to 8 pm everynight since she was about 6 weeks old and would sleep pretty much all the way through the night. For the past 2 months she has been waking up between 9 and 9:30 every night screaming. The thing is that she dosen't want anything but me, she doesn't even want her daddy (and she is a DADDY'S GIRL). I will get her to lay down in the bed with me and it takes her a while to go back to sleep. A really good friend of mine said that it sounded like she was having nightmares, and at first I thought maybe so, but it is still going on. The sad thing is I have Systemic Lupus and I have to sleep at least 8 hours a night to feel better and my husband tries so hard to help but she will not go to him. I don't know what's wrong or what to do. HELP!

What can I do next?

This same thing started happening with my daughter when she was that age. At the time, she had a stuffed elephant and it was actually her Nanny that came up with this great idea. We had a 'ritual', where we put the stuffed animal on the floor, circled around it 3 times, and then kissed it five times, thus giving it "magic", and making it capable of keeping bad dreams away. It worked.

When my daughter was 5, I began having horrible nightmares (I was in graduate school), and so my daughter passed it along to me. She said she felt that I needed it more.

My daughter is 13 now, and I still sleep with the 'magic' elephant. I never have nightmares. :)

Hey I know the feeling in a sense my 3yr old is growing out of it but when he was an infant he used to wake up screaming and crying like someone had just beaten him. It actually terrified me because he wouldn't wake up. I thought he was having night terrors. At the time I was a single mother and worked all the time so I was exhausted. I talked to his Doctor and because of his age they said they couldn't verfy if they were or were not terrors so I researched. Well I searched it on the web and you would be suprised at what you find out about infants and dreaming. I still think my son was having night terrors and still has them but not as frequent. He opens his eyes and crys so hard but actually never wakes up, sometimes daddy is enough to hold him and get him were he stops but most of the time it takes me to calm him. something about a mother's touch or smell I guess. The only advice I have is research her behavior. If they are continuing to occur then maybe reading about infant dreams, nightmares and such will give you an insite on what is causing them. It made me feel more comfortable about my son and I am able to handle the wakeups better now that I know more about what is going on. I wish you the best of luck and I H. everything works out for you and your little girl I know it is hard.

Take her to her Pedi and check all physical options. Let the doctor give some suggestions without meds, if possible. I don't want to offer any advice except bring her to her doctor.
I hopethis helps.

God Bless you and your family.

Hey girl - She may be having "night terrors." I read a medical article about it yesterday. I'm going to see if I can locate it again to send to you. Basically, it said that some babies between 1 and 3 begin having these "terrors" where they wake up screaming for no apparent reason and are hard to calm down. The article said there is a difference between nightmares and these night terrors. Let me see if I can find that article b/c it may help y'all!
