HI moms- Ok this may sound weird but my question is: do any of you have any good ideas for mice bait. I have a critter that is taunting me and he seems to be smarter than I am. I need some good ideas for bait to catch him. Anything would be helpful. I have used peanut butter but not sure if there is anything else that may work. Tanks in advance.

What can I do next?

When we lived in the country next to fields we used old fashion traps with butter, that worked really good but a new one got in every couple weeks so we ended up getting a cat too.

We had a terrible mouse problem a while ago and the best thing we found that worked was to get glue traps. Set several of them together with a big dollop of peanut butter in the middle, and you should catch him fairly soon.

Good luck!

I know you said that you've used peanut butter, so I won't suggest that - :) - we also used cheese whiz, as it stuck to the trap better! Good luck!!

I agree on the peanut butter, but we also used what we found they were getting into. Sunflower seeds were one of their favorites. We tried the live traps, sticky, and most recently (got tired of more returning) Orthero (sp). Good luck to you!

Peanut butter has always worked for me. I also hear that bacon works great too but I haven't tried it. Good luck getting rid of the nasty critters!

Corn Bread. I left some out on the counter covered with plastic wrap and noticed the mice chewed through the plastic wrap to get to the corn bread. I then used corn bread for bait and ended up catching three more mice. They seem to really like it.

The best solution that I know of, if you can do it, is to get a cat. I have tried everything and that is the best. Absent a cat, D-Con works well if you don't have any child or critter that might eat the bait or a mouse killed by the bait. D-Con is really toxic to children and critters, even the second time around. Absent these, the old stand by of cheese - and peanut butter work pretty well. Don't use the spring traps, though. The new ones don't work. Use the little black tube-like traps that entice the mouse inside. The sticky traps that work like spider traps are a bit cruel, but are effective, too.

Peanut butter on bread usually works. If he's too sneaky and pulls it off the trap w/o setting it of, try putting peanut butter right on the mechanism.

I've also always been fond of my cats - they've been great mousers! (And they dispose of the body too, never left as "gifts" for me, except with the younger cat was still learning)

Make sure you are useing the old spring type traps, I bought some of the covered ones since they seemed safer for toddlers in the house and caught nothing. Once we replaced them with the old open spring trap we caught all mice with in two days. We use peanut butter, but velveeta will work you just have to change out the traps once it dries out.

we used the zap traps and either peanut butter and velveeta
both stick to the back of the cage the mice get a quick zap, all you have to do is dump it.
we had close to an infestation after they built the houses behind us in the fields that were there. our house hadn't been sealed up properly. we got 2 or 3 mice a night until they were gone. it was awesome.
we keep the traps around just in case now--but haven't had mice since we got the house sealed up.
they have expensive ones out there but we just bought the ones at walmart and they worked great.
Good luck. I hate mice.

Small chunks of cheese may work. I'd try the peanut butter again. They have sticky traps, or you can set out little lids of beer or pop. Put poison behind the refrigerator or under the couches and chairs. Be aware. though, they eat it, go somewhere and die. The only way that you usually find them is by the smell. Just be careful with everything with little kids around. Traps really hurt when they snap!

One of the houses we lived in had a serious mouse problem. We used the glue traps for a while and they were great. When the number of mice decreased (yes, it was that bad when we moved in!), but we were still having issues, we ended up using an extermination service to help. The guy would come and do his job but we always had traps set in addition to his work. His highest recommendation was COTTON BALLS. I thought he was nuts! But the mice would come and try to get them for their nests and it actually worked really well! Also, make sure the traps are along the wall, which is where the mice usually travel.

I think the peanut butter on a cotton ball sounds good. My mom has problems with mice, and they use the old fashioned spring trap. They put a piece of candy bar on there. Not sure what kind though. They have caught over 3 dozen!!!

I think Peanut Butter and the larger 'rat' traps work better because they have to actually get all the way on the trap to get to the peanut butter. My dad swears the ones with the fake cheese work the best though! Good luck!

A friend of mine, who likes out in the country, gave me some advice for catching any mice in our garage.
Use the old fashion mouse traps, (The Dollar Tree has them $1 for 4) Bait them with chewed up skittles- they will harden on to the trap, so the mouse can not grab it and run. The put the trap inside a brown paper lunch bag. She says you can tell when the trap has been sprung from the bag being slightly torn/wrinkled. Then pick up and throw the whole thing away. I told she has spent WAY too much time on this topic.
Good luck

The best and safest way to end mice, get the plug in sonar things you can get at Home Depot by the pest control stuff.
They are like $15 to $25 depending on how much square footage you need. You just put them in a normal outlet and leave it alone. They will rid the mice, it sends off a frequency that drives them away and it covers a large area internally in your home. You cannot use them though if you have hamsters, guinea pigs or rodent type pets as that will hurt them.
Good luck

When we moved in this house...we had a serious mice problem! We caught over 50 mice the first week using peanut butter on a small piece of cotton ball.

good morning from montana, we have also had a problem with mice since we moved into our new home. the only thing i can get that works is sticky traps, this is even after spending hundreds of dollers for orken to put out mice homes (steal boxes that they are to go in but not out). well even then we put a sticky trap on top and then we got the little buggers! good luck from warm montana!!
