Infant Acne? - Charlotte,NC

I am just curious, but has anyone had their babies break out with what looks like acne on their face? My baby has lil bumps on her cheeks, chin & tiny ones on her forehead. The ones on her cheek can get a lil redder then anywhere else. I noticed her skin gets a bit oily, so I thought maybe that's why. I've been washing her face with a cool washcloth, but it almost seems like it's gotten worse. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much everyone. Her skin has gotten a bit better.. still a bit dry though. Her cheeks tend to get red when she cries, but otherwise it looks much better. Thanks again!

My son had a bad case of baby acne. His face (mostly just his cheeks) was red and bumpy, and his skin got very dry and scabby feeling. I thought it would NEVER go away. Each day it looked worse and worse. All we did was wash his face with a damp washcloth everyday, and every other day we would use his baby soap on it. I used a little bit of Oil Free Neutrogena lotion and it actually cleared up relatively fast (probably 3-4 weeks). It looks worse than it is, and trust me, it WILL go away! Good uck!

My 3 month old had the same symptoms. The acne is called "milia" and it's caused by the mother's hormones. Once the hormones exit the baby's body, his/her skin will heal. Try to stay away from washing too much and don't aggravate the bumps. If it gets too red or inflamed, my pediatrician suggested a tiny bit of Cortizon cream rubbed on her face. By four months of age, this should go away. My daughter is 3 months old and she's almost completly free of it and has beautiful baby skin once again!

My daughter had this around 5 weeks old- little red bumps all over her face and torso. It cleared up on it's own within a few weeks. Most of my friends babies had this as well. Congrats on your baby girl.

My baby had it too. Time and patients are your only remedies. It shouldn't last more than three or four weeks.

Hi A.,

My son has little bumps that come up on his cheeks that look like little pimples. I don't know what it is but it seems to clear up when I wipe his face with baby wipes. I use the unscented Pampers aloe whatever, but it seems to be about the only thing that works. I guess his skin is sensitive to something, but he's 3 1/2 and I haven't figured it out yet. It comes and goes. Hope it helps.

Good luck!!
