Insanity or P90x?

So, whats the difference? I was watching tv the other night after the kids went to bed and there was a thing about the insanity work out and honestly it didn't look too hard. I mean I'm sure it IS, but just from watching I thought "I could do that". I am not in good shape. I haven't worked out in about 6 months (I was doing a zumba video before). The reason I stopped is because I ended up getting the flu pretty badly and I never got back into the routine of working out and I'm having a hard time getting the motivation now. I would like to loose about 15 pounds. But, I have heard that both p90x and insanity are VERY hard to do. What would you recomend for someone who hasn't worked out in a while? I don't want to be so sore and tired that I can't even pick up my own kids either. I have some events coming up that I would like to start loosing weight for. My mom is visiting next month and we are also doing family photos at the end of Oct. and I'm going to visit my best friend in December in another state. So, what do you think? Thanks!

So What Happened?

thanks guys!
lol Mamma W. You can mention food. I'm pretty good about what I eat. I don't think I'm fat. Just not where I would like to be. I am 5'4 and 140, so I think 15 pounds would be good. I was 110 when I got married almost 10 years ago, but since then I've had 2 kids and am now hypothyroid, which has made it harder to loose anything.

I borrowed my friend's Insanity fit test last winter when I wanted to start working out again and it was HARD!! Too hard for me! I did a lot of research and reading reviews on Amazon and I finally decided to try p90, not p90x. I ordered it and it was pretty good! It gave me a good workout- and its short- and got me back into working out. I would recommend that as a starter (its also a little cheaper than p90x and Insanity).

Um...NOT insanity if you're out of shape! :)

Honestly neither of them is good to START out with. I like P90X becuase it incorporates weights and promotes muscle confusion (avoiding the plateau). Insanity is basically manic cardio, and they tell you to lift around it.
So you get a more complete program with P90X.

If you're just getting back into it, anything you do is going to take some pounds off. If you're going to make an investment in one of these programs, I would wait until you get back in the habit again.
You're more likely to keep it up if you don't go in hard core. People tend to drop out after a week becuase they're so wiped out and sore. Don't do that to yourself. Ramp up slowly, and then get into something like one of these programs.

Just my two cents.

P90X is very difficult, its a daily 1 hour workout that lasts 90 days...but the results are amazing. Pullups, pushups, challenging yoga, etc...one of the days is Plyometrics, which is Insanity workout....it is basically jump training, exhausting but fun. I bought Insanity...still haven't started it yet, but someone just gave me "10 minute trainer"...another Beachbody workout, you might want to look into that, I've heard great things!

I LOVE P90X. It lets you work at whatever level you are at and gives you options. I had obvious results after only 3 weeks.

Still to this day I personally don't know anyone who bought these programs and stuck with it. All my friends and acquaintances burned out after a month or so.

I do have tons of friends that are BIG into ZUMBA. I am seeing my friends shrink in just a few months...serious results and they are having fun doing it.

Find something you enjoy that is not such a life changer and then you are more likely to stick with it.

For me I love fast walking and running. It is cheap, no fees, and I can fit it easily into my day.

Soooo, I didn't give you any input on whether to do the two programs you asked about but some food for thought.(oops...sorry to mention food as you are embarking on losing some poundage.)

Good luck and best wishes at looking awesome in your Oct. pictures!!!

I have Insanity, and it is HARD! I thought I was in pretty good shape when I got it and it makes you feel so weak. You gain endurance quickly though if you stick with it. It's a pack of different CD's and a calendar that tells you which disc to do each day so it definitely helps keep your body confused so the weight will come off. Be prepared to sweat harder than you ever thought possible though. It's not a bunch of pretty girls dancing on screen either, it's regular people sweating and looking like they want to puke.

I've tried P90x. Seems like it's for people who are already in shape and want a more demanding workout (like my husband). And it's pricey - ours was a gift. My opinion: it's for guys (though I know women who use the program). Good luck with whatever you choose!

I've done the P90x Ab video. If done correctly, with all the reps, it leaves me sore. I work out 5-6 times a week and am a black belt in karate. My 30 year-old nephew who bikes 75 miles at a time tried it, and he was so sore it hurt to get in the car to go to work the next morning. It's a great workout, but take it easy at first, take breaks.
