I have a friend that has been really down lately... her husband got was laid off last month, and she just found out she is pregnant with their 4th child. They were barely making it with his unemployment as it was. Her family is extremely unhelpful, they dislike her husband because (according to them) he is "lower class" and they have cut her out of their lives. Every few weeks she gets phone calls to the tune of "when are you going to leave him and come home" and the like. She is a SAHM, but now they are both looking for jobs. She is completely overwhelmed (I'm sure her prego hormones don't help much either). I want to cheer her up so I am putting together a "montage" of pics of us and all our friends to remind her of the good times. (She loves stuff like that... she collects montages but hates making them. lol.) I want an "inspirational" song for part of it... I am looking for something that has an "I made it through the hard times" theme or an "I'm living my life my way successfully" theme... any suggestions? I would prefer country, but anything would work really. :)

What a wonderful thing to do for your friend.
Times are so tough for so many people right now. I'm a single mom and really have to juggle, but I took a friend to the store to help her with groceries until she gets her paycheck. She's a single mom too. We look out for each other.
Anyway, one of the most beautiful songs I know is one you likely haven't heard. I share it with everyone. You should be able to download it. It's also on the soundtrack for the movie "Corrina, Corrina" with Whoopie Goldberg.
(Awesome movie, by the way).
It's called "We Will Find A Way" by Oleta Adams and Brenda Russell.
Talk about inspirational.....
Here are the lyrics.......
Sun follows rain
Strength follows pain
0h, We will find a way
There is a plan
Peace follows understanding
0h, We will find a way
And in the long run
All things happen for a reason
Though it's hard sometimes believing what that means
Down the long road, we will sail above these waters
There are more than seven wonders to be seen
Here in your smile
My heart can rest awhile
And I know we will find a way
Faith is the key
That brought you here to me
0h, we will find a way
Sun follows rain
Time heals the pain
Oh, we will be all right
And in the long run
All things happen for a reason
Though it's hard sometimes believing what that means
When the darkness goes on forever
We can light a candle together
We will sail above these waters
There are more than seven wonders
All things happen for a reason
There's so much for us to believe in
And as long as I'm still breathing
Oh, we will find
We will find
A way
"There You Are" by Martina McBride is a beautiful song too.
"I Will Sail My Vessell" by Garth Brooks.
I don't know a lot of country songs, sorry.
This is a lovely idea. I hope it turns out great and she really likes it.
Best wishes.
"Just Dance" by Jamiroquai
"Shiny Happy People" REM & the B-52's
"A Lovely Day" by Bill Withers
Have fun!
"You Raise Me Up" - Josh Groban
pretty corny, but "The Wind Beneath My Wings" - Bette Midler (theme from Beaches)
"You'll Never Walk Alone" - Not sure which Rodgers & Hammerstein musical it is from, but Elvis Presley has a very pretty version of it too
What a sweet friend you are for doing this for her. Would bring me to some very happy tears!!
Danny's Song by Loggins&Messina
Lyrics
People smile and tell me I'm the lucky one,
And we've only just begun.
Think I'm gonna have a son.
He will be like she and me, as free as a dove,
Conceived in love.
Sun is gonna shine above.
And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.
Seems as though, a month ago, I was Beta-Chi,
Never got high.
Oh, I was a sorry guy.
And now, I smile and face the girl that shares my name.
Now I'm through with the game.
This boy will never be the same.
And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.
Pisces, Virgo rising is a very good sign,
Strong and kind,
And the little boy is mine.
Now I see a family where the once was none.
Now we've just begun.
Yeah, we're gonna fly to the sun.
And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.
Love the girl who holds the world in a paper cup.
Drink it up.
Love her and she'll bring you luck.
And if you find she helps your mind, better take her home.
Don't you live alone.
Try to earn what lovers own.
And even though we ain't got money,
I'm so in love with you, honey,
And everything will bring a chain of love.
And in the morning, when I rise,
You bring a tear of joy to my eyes
And tell me everything is gonna be alright.
My husband and I love the song, and I remember MY mother singing it with my dad.
How about "You're Still The One" by Shania Twain or "I Could Not Ask For More" by Edwin McCain?
I don't know if it is inspirational but the song Your Gonna Miss This is a good one. I try to think of this song when my 3 y/o is screaming on the floor. :)
I dunno if your friend is a spiritual person but this song helped me a lot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp3vsycYYcU It's He'll Carry You by Hillary Week
there's also the song Ordinary Day from Great Big Sea that I love. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AvkyHCU7XU
Hope she will feel better soon. My family is not unhelpful but they all leave in Canada and I'm in the States so I know the feeling of being alone.
Bridge Over Troubled Waters (Simon & Garfunkle is my fav version but there are others)
I'm not a country-lover, but I do love the song "The River" by Garth Brooks. Very heartwarming.
Good luck to you and your friend!
It ain't over, until God says it's over-Maurette Brown Clark
