Itchy! - Muscatine,IA

My armpits and legs (above the knee) get very itchy after I shave. It doesn't matter if I use shave cream or soap, a new razor or one that has been used before, or an electric razor. I do not have razor burn. They just get itchy. It is rather annoying but I don't want hairy pits so I just deal with it. Is there anything I can do to make this stop or lessen the itchiness? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My dr told me I am probably allergic to the metal nickel which is in most razor blades. If you have peirced ears that get itchy with cheap earrings it's probably the case. It's not bad enough that I've looked into finding different razors. You'd have to go to a place like "the art of shaving" at mall of America to find a nickel free razor.

You may be reacting to the metal in the razor itself. I've never really heard of this, but it was just a thought that came to mind.

could be dryness. Are you happy with the moisturizer you use on your legs, or do they sometimes look dry? I would consider a different antiperspirant. Go as natural as you can.

Sounds like your skin is dry. You might try to use a thick moisturizer under your arms while you sleep and you can wear it all day on your legs.

Something is irritating your freshly shaven (exfoliated) skin. You may want to try all natural soap.

Have you tried an organic shave cream? I switched just to try something different; I go through razors faster, but no itchy. I like "Avalon" organics--it was something with lavender. Could also be something in the "strip" on your razor

Try some soothing vitamin e oil or baby oil
Maybe it is just dry from the shaving

Hi Yarrmatey,
That itching has got to be frustrating. My skin got so 'rough' when I shaved. Couple questions to ask: What is in my creams, soaps, personal care products, foods, liquids, cleaning supplies, air, and environments? Is there Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Propylene Glycol (PG), Butylene Glycol, Polyethylene Glycol (PEG), Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40), DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), TEA (triethanolamine), DMDM Hydantoin, Urea (Imidazolidinyl), FD&C Color Pigments, Fragrances, Mineral Oil, Triclosan, Chlorine (from City water supplies or swimming pools), Heavy Metals, Nicotine, Fluoride, Airborne chemicals from flyover spraying, microwave use of any amount at home or dining out, Aspartame (and all other synthetic sweeteners, Sugar, MSG, Deodorants that contain Aluminums, Cleaners of most types, Air Fresheners...The list is quite intense and scary! It is possible to work at all of these issues. There are some immediate options for your immediate needs. I have access to a lot of information and product options so that we (all of us humans and animals) can live as healthy as possible. Send me a message if you'd like to chat more to ____@____.com Luck!

it sounds like razor burn/rash - it's actually really common, especially in men with their beards, and you may just have to keep trying until you find what's right for you.

Ask your pharmacist or doctor to see what they recommend - it should be a simple fix.

Believe it or not, I wax to solve this one. I have problems around my bikini line if I shave, but waxing is OK.
