JFF - Can't Remember My Name

my name is nicole and i consistently get people who, if they don't remember my name, call me michelle. i have asked a few other nicole's and they also get called michelle. i am curious as to what name people call you when they've forgotten your name.

---
to Nichol - oh i'd forgotten about nickle! however my friends added 'butt' to it so my middle school nickname was 'nicklebutt'. i think they were trying to make me mad at first but it stuck. even with 'nicole', people don't know how to spell it. i always say 'nicole no h' but yours is funny!

What can I do next?

When I was in 8th grade (and going by "Patti"), the parish priest kept calling me "Cathy" :-)

Perhaps a fan of the Patty Duke Show, lol . . .

My name is Dawn, but at least I'm not called Shirley or Peter. (And I don't call myself Shirley or Peter to other people - that's even better!) Thank goodness for that!

Have a great day, Nikki!

Oh nikki-

I am terrible with names!! (faces I never forget!) I usually remember the first letter...

I have a terrible habit though...I 'nic name' people...lol

I have a friend (now) who I first 'nicked' 'lip lady'...(she used to outline her lips in brown pencil...long after that trend)

Then there is dragon lady (former boss...thank goodness...)

Then there was 'leather lady' (over tanning...kind of like that NJ mom...)

I am close with 'betty machete'...a nurse who did a nursing stint with a family near a rain forest...

Then there is my friend 'dingy danette'...meant lovingly of course...

And the list goes on...

I have also taken to calling my own kids 'honey'...(saves going through the whole list if I am stressed! lol

I am lucky to remember my OWN name at the end of the day...

Best luck!
Michele...

or cat...

or honey?

Mine is Marjorie and I have been called Audrey, Aubrey, Margaret.
In high school one kid could not remember my name. After he had asked the umpteenth time I said CLEOPATRA!!! That stuck, for 4 years to his groups of friends I was Clee or Cleo. I started calling him Marc Antony, we became good friends. His name is Simeon.

I go by Becky 99% of the time... most people call me Jackie.

I usually smile and say where is my mom? looking around.
( Jackie is my mom's name)

On of my boss' many years ago could never remember Becky so I went two years being called Penelope ( how that is easier to remember is way beyond me!) He said I reminded him of a Penelope... umm ok. We got along great and hit it off right away so I let him get away with it.

I had a friend growing up who's dad could never remember my name, Sara, and started calling me Emily. I'm not sure where that came from but I was Emily to him for years.

my name is R.. I have a sister that is only a year younger named Rhonda. When we were growing up, people couldn't remember which of us was which, so we both were often called each others name. Now, I find that people often call me Rhonda and they don't even KNOW my sister. Wierd!

Wow, looks like I lucked out! I'm M. and I don't ever get called anything else. Rachelle once but that was it. I always thought it was a bummer to grow up with such a popular name but obviously it has at least one advantage :)

Well, Michelle this is an interesting question! My name is A., but you can call me Jamie. Or you can call me Sarah (my older sister). Funny how everyone always calls the younger sibling by the older sibling's name. My husband is always called by his big brothers name, too. Even though my sister hasn't lived in the state in a dozen years, I've stuck around close to where we grew up and am STILL Sarah!

I get Sharon when people forget.
Oddly enough, the name that most *sounds* like S. is Janet. If I hear someone calling for Janet, I turn around. I had a class with a Janet in High School and was constantly answering for her.

My name is M. and I always get called Michelle! It drives me crazy. People call my work and ask for Michelle and get transferred to the real Michelle here only to find out they really needed me. I've gone so far as to leave my name 4 times in one voicemail to someone but still get called Michelle. It's been an issue my whole life. A guy once told me I just look like a Michelle. Really? How do you "look" like a Michelle?

I usually get 'Heather' and once, "Holly" which are also very nice plants, so I understand. I also got "Harriet" today, which made me think of Harriet the Spy and a good tomato sandwich. (If you're unfamiliar with that young adult novel-- she eats them and they're one of my favorite summer sandwiches.)

@Catwalk: I have a friend who calls all her kids 'Bessie', even the boys. So calling your kids "honey" is just fine!

Oh lord, I have enough trouble with people who DO remember my name. I am Jack-a-lynn, Jack-lynn, Jac-que-line, Jac-leen, Jock-a-lynn, Zhac-leen, etc., and often in school it was Jack-o-lantern, lol! This is why I just go by Jackie.

I get Alex. Close enough for government work I say. I feel really sorry for my coworker, though. His last name is a first name and his first name is just very unusual. Half the time he gets called by his last name OR they run the two together. How in the heck they think that flies I'll never understand. I teased him mercilessly when he and his wife were expecting. I kept telling him to pick a normal name. Good thing he didn't read this post or he'd think there's no hope regardless.

Catwalk - Too funny. I nickname people too. It throws me sometimes when I come face to face trying to remember their real names. Nicknames provide such flair I think and go a long way in describing a person in a conversation with my husband. Hehehe...
