I was going to say dungarees too, but britches always makes me giggle!
My husband told me that in his country, blue jeans are referred to as "Cowboys." So, whenever I do laundry he asks me, "Did you wash my cowboys?"
What other names do you use for jeans?
Haha, Marty, I hope he never refers to him as "his darkies" in public. That might get him into some trouble :)
I was going to say dungarees too, but britches always makes me giggle!
My mom used to sing this song:
We are Stillwater girls
We wear our hair in curls
We wear our dungarees rolled up
Above our knees
We wear our father's shirts
We are the biggest flirts
And when it comes to men
We get the best of them!!
:)
(Course that was the early 50s)
We call them jeans but I have heard others call them "dungarees" (not sure of the spelling).
Jeans were often called dungarees when I was growing up. The word is an old one, derived from the name of a thick, sturdy fabric used to make work clothes before denim became popular.
"Britches" are almost any sort of pants except suit trousers (and maybe sometimes then). It applied to diapers just as well as to jeans. Have you ever heard the expression, "He's too big for his britches"? That's talking about someone who has gotten too prideful or egotistical.
My mom called them dungarees.
my husband called them Heavy's, or Darkies. "hey did you wash my Heavy's?"
I warned him about that. LOL
We just call them jeans.
