We've been together for 14 years, married for 11.
I am somehow not in a funny, lovey mood right now, so I'm probably forgetting the funniest things, but a few I remember are:
a. After we'd been dating for all of a week or something, we drove down to the coast and took a walk on the cold, rainy beach -- and pretty much fell madly in love. And, proceeded to completely, utterly, hopelessly forget where we'd parked. My then-new-boyfriend reasonably speculated that the car had been towed. I, with my love-addled brain, was absolutely sure he was saying the car had been bewitched and turned into a toad.
b. We met during a union drive. He was a staff organizer, I was a worker-activist. We were ridiculously careful about being discreet while the organizing drive was going on. When we won the election for representation, we pretty much came out of the closet. No one even blinked. Everyone, I mean everyone, already knew.
c. We've always had this relationship metaphor, "stay in the canoe," and when he decided to propose to me, the Mister took me on a whitewater canoeing trip. Trouble was, he had no clue how to handle whitewater and capsized us twice. I (who actually can canoe) pretty much started our engagement by yelling at him. It's a miracle that the ring, and the marriage, survived, but they did ;)
You and Trav sound really cool, fun, outdoorsy, and fearless. Good for you!
