I lost my remote key fob and am down to one. I want to get a replacement in case this one gets lost, too. I had no idea they were so expensive! I am wondering if you have any advice re: where to get one that is reputable at a good price. The dealer was much more expensive than online versions, but I want to be sure what I'm buying online works. If you've been down this route, I'd love your input.Thank you!

You will need to do it per dealer because they have to program it to your car most car keys now have a part that is specific to your car.

We bought ours at the dealer because in our case, a briefcase which had the keys in it was stolen and the car was at the airport at the time.

The dealer was able to completely disable the stolen key and reprogram the new key.

We did pay $350. We keep a spare key for each car in a safe place.

We didn't want to spend $350 nor did we like spending the $$ but when it comes to our cars, we only deal through our dealer. There is a reason a dealer is more expensive and not necessarily just to rip you off...

If online sounds too good to be true then think again.. You may end up out more money than you would have been if you had just gone to the dealer from the start.

My neighbor was telling me that she was able to replace and program her key fob for 1/3 of the price the dealership wanted. I wasn't really paying attention because she's a nut job. Look around online and see what you can get for DIY stuff.

My husband bought a bunch of them online on ebay. We did buy one at $300 from the dealer. He programmed it there. . we have a dodge caravan. once we had the one programmed we were then able to do the others my husband bought on ebay ourselves with the manual that came in the car.

Thanks for asking this..I have lost our second set of car keys.

I know it will turn up someday when we aren't looking for it. In the meantime...I don't like having only one set.

I will keep looking in on your responses. Dang I love this site! Thanks again for thinking to ask this.

You can go to an aftermarket car place and get it there for cheaper. I get a lot of work done on my cars at places like that (one in particular) and nothing has ever gone wrong.
