I take my kids to the hair shop, it is olathe on santa fe drive in the shopping center by hy-vee.( I think they have other locations as well) they do a good job and it is only $8 for a kids cut. hope this helps
Is Shear Madness the only place for kids to get haircuts... where do you all take your children. The last hair cut my son got at Shear Madness... it was awful... I could have done much the same and saved the money. LOL
Any suggestions?

I have 3 boys (twins 7 and 9) and have taken them to Sports Clips, but, in Olathe. It is for males only not really a child place but they cut only on boys and men. There haircuts have always looked nice. They have sport themes around them.
When they where younger I told them daddy get his hair cut here it is where the big boys go. They did fine and the girls are fast. But most of all they know how to cut boys hair styles. Hope that helps.
I took my son to Great Clips, after trying to do it myself a few times. It was, surprisingly, a great experience. They sensed his fear, gave him a Elmo to hold, let him comb Elmo's hair, and another stylist blew bubbles while the actual cutting was going on. They worked very fast, but did a great job. I didn't expect all this attention for a $10 haircut! I have to say, we will definitely be going back!
BTW, this was the Great Clips at 55th and K7, in Western Shawnee.
I take my son (6 years) to Sports Clips. It's just for boys and men.
I think they do a great job. My son loves getting his hair cut. I've seen a couple of scared boys getting their hair cut and they seemed really understanding and worked with parents and kid.
We go to Great Clips at 135th and Quivira. They haven't messed my 11 year old son's hair up yet, and he has two cowlicks (sp?). However, not all Great Clips are equal. That is the only location I can say does a consistently good job. The others (in that area) have done terrible jobs before, so I don't trust them, even if they are closer to home.
I take my girls to Charles Hayden Salon (I don't know if that is spelled right) and her name is LeAnn. It is a really small place but she is great and very cheap. She is right at 97th and Metcalf I think that is right. It is right behind the Home Depot there. Good Luck ###-###-#### is the number.
Hi T.. My name is C. Suptic and I am a hair dresser in Westport. I cut kids and adults hair. My kids cuts are usually $15. Sometimes a little less or more depending on time and cut. The salon I work at is Statements Salon and the # is ###-###-####. My hours vary Tues-Sat.
My kids go to Nichole to get their hair cut. She has her own both inside the Salon Flhair salon off of 103rd and Metcalf. She has cut my kids hair since they were babies and does a GREAT job!! I would never go anywhere else to get their hair or my hair cut. Her # is ###-###-####.
We just take our boy to Great Clips and they do a much better job than Shear Madness at half the cost!
it's hit and miss, but I have found a Great Clips that does pretty good. You just have to find someone and stick with them. Also, in the "glump" of coupons you get in the mail, i.e. KC CLIPS, they often have a coupon so it's between $4.99 and $7.99. I figure even if it is aweful, at least I'm not paying $20!
Try Sports Clips, it's a place strictly for men and boys. We used to go to Shear Madness but I just can't pay that price for both of my boys.
I have resorted to Great Clips or Super Cuts. I really think it is all the same, sometimes good and sometimes not so good. BUT you do not pay and arm and a leg for it! (Boys sure need a lot of haircuts, at least mine does.) Good luck!
We take our son to Sports Clips. He has fun looking at all the sports stuff. My husband always takes him and he loves it. It is a good haircut and we go to the one on Shawnee Mission Parkway and 435

I take my son to the Shear Madness at 151st & Nall. Go to Tesha. She is great! My son wiggles around and she does an excellent job. My husband took him to Great Clips the last time, and it didn't look so great. And Great Clips charges $13 if you don't have a coupon. So they are only $3 less than Shear Madness.
I have to agree with you, Shear Madness is way too expensive for what you get! The last time I took my, then, 2 year old, he cried and cried and the lady cutting his hair was so forceful! I've got 4 kids so I just can't afford them. I'll never go back! We live in Lenexa and go to a girl that does a wonderful job on boys hair. Her name is Kathy and she owns Classy Cuts which is off 83rd and K7. Maybe a bit far for you? If I were you, I'd just try some of the cheap hair shops like Snip-n-Clip, Fantastic Sams, or Sports Clips. They are much cheaper and do a fine job.
I was not happy with Great Clips or Super cuts but I do agree that Sports Clips in Olathe and in Shawnee are both good salons for boys cuts,it is a unisex salon as I have seen women getting cuts there also. my 9 year old has been going there since moving to kansas. But you can run across a bad stylist anywhere, one at the Shawnee location in particular I avoid. You might try asking the clients or listening to who they ask for, and you can ask for a specific stylist
I take my grandson who is 13 to fantastic Sams in Gardner. That is also where I go. Cheryl, the manager has been cutting his hair since he was little. she gave him his first haircut.
We have had a couple bad experiences at Shear Madness as well. The Great Clips on Stateline (Prairie Village) is pretty reliable. L.
I took my son to great clips. on noland and I-70 hwy in independence and the lady that did his hair was awesome she even gave him a sucker and had him sit on my lap so he wasn't to nervous. The lady that cut his hair was named Colby. She was amazing. she did my hair to and was awesome.
any great clips does a great job. They low bubbles and hand the child an ELMO doll to keep him distracted
Good luck
