About a month ago I decided to finally switch from Gillette deodorant to an all natural, aluminum free deodorant. I was recommended to the Kiss My Face brand by a sales associate in a local all natural food store so I went with the patchouli scented one and the summer ete one. Both work pretty good, if at home bummin around I'm good all day mostly, if at work I do need to reapply halfway through the day. But overall I'm okay with the product and satisfied except for this sudden rash. It's been a few weeks now and I just started noticing a dark region under my arms. It's not itchy and irritating, just noticeable and not very big, around 2 inches long and 1 inch tall. How do I get rid of this rash and which natural deodorants can you MAMA's suggest to a guy who needs suggestions, Thank you so much Mamapedia world!

So What Happened?

Hi Mama's, thanks for all your responses, I appreciate your time! Yesterday I switched back to the Aluminum(ey) deodorant from Gillette, no smell all day, no need for re-application mid-day, and my rash has actually went down about 80% since then already! I am only going to use the Gillette until I find a new natural product to try out. I called Kiss My Face corporate yesterday and left a message for their customer service dept, still awaiting call back, maybe they can help me determine what ingredient is doing this and maybe they will be a good company?? and give me my money back considering their sticks are $5.99 at the store I bought them at. I will update this again when I find Toms of Maine's Lemongrass Deodorizer, that's my next science project in my quest for a good all natural, non rash forming deodorant. Any suggestions on where to buy Toms Lemongrass variety? Thanks again Mamas!

I can't use natural deodorant (tried several varieties because they really do smell soooo yummy)... but most I'm allergic to, and a few I've had really bad reactions to (dark scaly rashes).

As Theresa said... many "natural" ingredients/products are actually far more caustic than non-"natural" products. Arsenic & Dog Poo & are both totally natural and organic... doesn't make either safe to eat or smear on us.

The crystal, btw, is almost straight Aluminum salts. It's not aluminum chlorohydrate... but there are a whole bunch of different chemical versions of aluminum. ((I'm not a chemist... my 6 quarters f organic and inorganic chem I got by with the skin of my teeth... but the website is DEFINATELY cheating by saying that there is no aluminum chlorohydrate in them. There's aluminum salts, just not THAT aluminum salt). The older label version lists out the salts in it (as it still does overseas)... the new one here in the US just says "mineral" salts. As if we didn't know that many minerals are highly toxic... like cobalt, cadmium, lead, arsenic, thallium.

Origins has a great one that works for me. It is a spray and is aluminum free. My husband has success with Burts Bee's. We tried everyone on the market. Most don't work, so made me break out too, but Origins is the best for my body chemistry. I buy mine at Macy's. Good luck!

Most people don't understand why synthetics are bad for you. Any chemical or natural ingredient can be dangerous if there is too much, or is used in correctly.

Theresa is absolutely correct. I posted a question yesterday about why people believe Organic and Natural to be better - the responses are amazing.

Many products at health food stores have not been submitted to the FDA for approval. Often, there's little scientific evidence to support using them, and it sounds like your body is telling you to switch to something else.

First, I'd call your doctor, let them know what you're using and see what they recommend to treat the discoloration and for alternatives.

Just because something doesn't hurt, doesn't make it something not to worry about. My cancer didn't hurt. It can't, it doesn't have nerve endings. I found it on accident when a muscle in my shoulder hurt.

Trying to be good to your body is completely commendable, and I also, as a cancer survivor, want to live the longest/healthiest life possible. I just want to know what I'm using has been thoroughly tested. My company is developing a treatment for head lice based upon a naturally-derived ingredient. It's been in development for 8 years - the FDA is being VERY careful with all new drugs reviewing data and doing their best to make sure the products on the market are as safe as possible.

i use ban and i have allergies to alot of things. avon also has a hypoallergenic deodrant. you are probably allergic to something in the deodrant. baby powder also works if you are allergic to all of them.
