My breast tend to leak at night and I currently use breast pads. Is there any product out there that stops leaking breast? I heard that Lily Padz work well. Has anyone used these? If so, so they really stop the leaking? Plus I heard they are washable. How long to they last? If there are any product out there that work please let me know. I don't want to have to continue to buy breast pads all the time.

What can I do next?

Hi Sylvia-

They are wonderful and awful at the same time. I loved that they didn't show through summer tops (esp. white ones) like the breast pads did sometimes and you can go without a bra if you'd prefer. I wasn't leaking heavily when I wore them but did leak and they stopped it. However, you have to really wash them well everyday because they developed a smell that wasn't pleasant (I'm guessing from the milk, skin contact, etc.). I'd say they are great for the most part but the use of breast pads were still important to me. They were definitely worth the $20 I paid for them (until I lost one and couldn't find it in my own home!). They are clear and hard to find if dropped.

Good luck!

Hi Sylvia- With my 1st daughter I leaked a lot. I used playtex washable pads ( you can get them at Target or Babiesrus). I don't know that any pad will stop the leaking but any brand of washable pads are more comfortable, durable and reusable.
Good Luck

I liked Lily Padz, but only for times that I was away from my daughter and not nursing. They really need to be washed (at least rinsed) to keep on, so taking them on and off at night to nurse isn't convenient. They are great for when you are at work.

My only problem was one night when I worked later than usual and was really full. I was waiting for the el and someone bumped up against me with their bag, dislodging the pad causing a leak while on the el platform. I used them for 8 months and that was my only problem.

Hi,

I also leak a lot at night, and the Lily Padz didn't work for me for a couple reasons: 1) I still leaked, and 2) It became a pain to take them off to nurse throughout the night. What I do now instead is lay a soft blanket across the top 1/2 of the bed, and I wash the blanket regularly.

I loved lily padz. I liked them way more then the disposable ones, they always itched and showed through all my shirts. They also make washable pads but I never tried them. I was able to use lily padz for a bout 2-3 weeks if I washed them every night, but I didn't leak very much. Some people say they aren't good if your prone to infections but I never had a problem with them. I think they were about $12? Alot less that a box a breast pads you'd have to go through every few days.

I did use these - but I wouldn't recommend them for overnight/exclusive everyday use. They create a "vacuum" that prevents leaking for at least a few hours, enough to work between feedings. But sometimes the pressure of milk starting to leak would break the "seal" - and since these don't absorb at all, you'd wake up in a puddle. And once they're wet, you need to rinse and shake them dry before reapplying. But they lasted for a good six months (at least). And they were perfect for the beach! I haven't heard of anything that stops leaking.

I was also a leaker. I didn't care for the Lily Padz. I would get a lot of milk pooled up inside of them and then when I would take them off to nurse it was difficult not to spill it on myself and my daughter. I tried pushing my nipples in more before putting them on to stop this and it just didn't work for me. The end for me was one night when I wore them and my husband gave me a hug and I felt all this warm milk spill down the front of me and my blouse.

I've never used them, but they work on the principal that light pressure stops the leaking - which it does. I just use my arm or hand to apply pressure to the breast my son is not eating off of when I let down. (Or you can "casually" fold your arms across your chest if you happen to feel a random let down - and apply some pressure to both breasts). It takes a little coordination to press on one side while feeding your baby on the other side, but once I got the hang of it it works like a charm. I've not needed breast pads since my son was about 1 month old (he's 13 months now, and still nurses 2-3x/day). This assumes that you can feel your let down, of course... And I guess if you've mostly got problems at night it doesn't help at all. But it works great during the day.

I have several friends who loved these. I bought them with high expectations and they work great. I developed a slight case of thrush and had to stop using them. I am not sure if this was because of all of the moisture that they held in or not. I ordered mine, but I also saw them at Burlington Coat Factory the other day.

I liked them. I still have mine from my 1st child (3.5 yrs) and thy still are fine. I mostly wear for nighttime, swimming, and dressy occasions. you kind of have to push in your nipple and stick them on, when i was really full, there would be a little pool of milk inside, and only once did it leak out. to wash you just run them under some hot water. hope this helps
