Sue's idea is perfect and simple. Use a bowl of Lucky Charms for the bait...... Unless you can find a cute little pot of gold.
Don't forget to tie a long string to the stick so you can pull it when the leprechaun enters the box :)
Hello! My son and I have to make a "leprechaun trap" for his preschool class. Does anyone have any good ideas for a trap? I have seen a few online, but looking for something maybe a bit less complicated!
Thanks!!

Yes! I loved my son's leprechaun trap. We bought a spring mouse trap, attached a wire hanger holding a net, put some "gold" beneath it, and when the leprechaun went to get the gold, the trap snapped shut.
I still have the leprechaun in a little cage, but he's getting kind of annoying after 15 years, so I think I'm going to let him go.
p.s. - Once we put the wire and the net on, it actually came down very slowly, so no one's fingers will get chopped off.
decorate a shoe box, prop up one end with a stick/piece of wood....put something inside for the "bait"........& that's it!
We do a trap in my preschool classroom every year. All you have to do it prop a box up with a stick. Inside the box put lots of bait: goldfish crackers, corn pops, rolo candies, etc.
I agree about the simple shoebox - he's only a preschooler! You can find chocolate gold "coins" in the candy aisle or fake coins at the party store. Craft stores usually have foam shapes (shamrocks?) he can color and glue on. You could use a length of green ribbon around the border and he could help glue it - or use the glue "dots" from the craft store - easier to handle. Fabric stores will sometimes sell you a tiny bit of trim very cheaply if it's at the end of a sample and no one else will want it for a larger project.
