Hello~
Today at my breast feeding class the instructor talked about a new product call Lily Padz.
Have any of you used these before or heard anything good/bad about them? I'm thinking about maybe using them...when the time comes!:) 28 days and counting!
Hope you all are having a great weekend.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Wow, thank you all for your great advice! I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase a pair and give them a shot. However I’ll be very vigilant about keeping them clean, I’m not sure I want any type of infection in that area! Thanks again. ☺

congrats! Lily pads are great. Alittle wierd at first, but you get used to them, just read the instructions. The only problem is that they sometimes leak...like in the middle of some publc event where everyone can see you're leaking. But I highly recommend them because as long as you empty them if they begin to fill up, they're awesome. They last about 3 mos & then you have to buy a new pair, very worth it.

I discovered these a few months into the game, but I loved them and bought them again for this next time already! They stopped my leaking altogether, but didn't decrease my milk supply. I just had one pair and washed them each night and they were good in the morning, but I can see how two pairs would be good! I highly recommend them to all mothers!!

I used these with my son and I LOVED them. I only leaked a couple of times but never enough to wet clothing, just slight pooling inside the pad. One of the best reasons to get the lilypadz is not just for use as a nursing pad but for protection of your nipples. It's not talked about much but the first week or two after birth your nipples are EXTREMELY sensitive, it was that way for me at least. Anything that touched them hurt so having the protective barrier of the lily pad was a godsend! I put them on right after getting out of the shower to protect from the towel rubbing against my nipple and leave them on all day. I would highly recommend these to any mom, I had two pair's! Easy to use, easy to clean, well worth the money!

Hi T.,
I couldn't breastfeed, so didn't use them, however a good friend of mine uses them and says they are GREAT! They create a seal against your skin so you don't even let down your milk, therefore no leaking. Much better than the pads you stick in your bra to soak up leakage and end up smelling like breastmilk all day. I think she got then at Motherhood Maternity. Good luck with your birth and baby! It's so great being a mom!

I heard about them from my girlfriend next door. I had been using the medela pads which are great for disposable, but once I used the lilypads I was hooked! I loved them. I bought 2 pairs. My first never wore out so I will use them in a few months (March will bring our 2nd baby!) and keep the other pair as a back up!
Good luck to you!

I have used them, but didn't very often because I still leaked milk and then they got slimy, had to be "refreshed" and the lint and cat hair in my household made them pretty gross. I had the best intentions to use them and even though I followed the directions (flattened my nipples) I still dribbled :(. I ended up just going to target and getting the cotton disposable kind. HOWEVER, I'm going to try with my second, the cotton, washable kind that have the same backing that is waterproof (like cotton diapers)....some local places sell them but mostly I've found them online. Good luck with your research!

First off, congratulations!

I, like Abra, started using them once my milk supply regulated itself. I can't use them at night because I still seem to leak through by morning, but I LOVE them during the day. I had heard of women getting yeast infections from them, so I rinse them off and dry them after 2-3 feedings during the day. This is my third child, and I got them when my 2nd was born. I saved SO much money by using them instead of disposable nursing pads, so I think they are worth it.

T.,

I loved my Lily Padz. They really work! I liked them more than the nursing pads that were always bulky. It's true they aren't natural because they are plastic of course, but I like that I don't have a wet diaper like feeling on my breasts all day.

The way they work is to prevent leakage by sealing the milk up by placing the plastic tight on the nipple so it serves as a sealer keeping the flow sealed. It's all about preventing the flow (once started it wants to keep flowing). There have been a couple of times I didn't seal it right or I waited too long before I either pumped or nursed and I leaked. Leakage often occurs because there is rubbing on the nipple and as nature takes it course the milk will come out. If it hasn't been too long and you notice you can just correctly seal it into place. If it has been to long, well, you still have to fullfill your duties as a nursing mother LOL.

Congrats! and Good Luck!

Congrats First of all!!!!!!! Ok I loved them i used them with my first and second they are way more comfy then any paper or ever cloth pad. I found with the paper ones that if you werent able to chenge them right away and they were allowed to dry they could stick to your skin and pull skin off!! ouch you dont need that pain when you need to be most comfortable and relaxed. The Lilypads are great because the are reuseable and invert your nipple. I also worked at motherhood maternity for awhile after i had my first two and women raved about them!! They are a little price like twenty bucks and you will want to get two sets one to wash one to wear. but when you thin about what you have spent for everything else it really is nothing. Anyways good luck and i hope everything goes well!!!

I felt that these worked well after my milk supply regulated. In the beginning (right after the milk came in) it poured out so heavily that I really needed something to absorb. However, when my son was about 4-5 months old these were a great choice. Congrats on your new baby. :)

I tried LilyPadz. I was warned to be careful that yeast infections can develop if there is any moisture on the skin. It developed a great seal on the edge, but I didn't seem to get a good enough seal around the nipple When I removed them, there was a small amount of milk pooled in center. Enough to make an embarrassing wet spot on my clothing, wherever it would fall.
I don't even use nursing pads anymore. The idea behind these pads is to compress the nipple, so that no milk will come out. Instead, I simply use my 'free' hand to compress the nipple, as my son nurses on the other side. It saved me a lot of money. And my son is now 10 months and still nursing. I highly recommend a shawl to cover up and allow you more flexibility and allow you to remain modest. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Shalom.

Sorry to respond to your question so late, but I just joined this fantastic site. I work part-time and wear Lily Padz during my shifts. I can't always pump at predictable times and have great luck with the Lily Padz keeping my breasts from leaking. I also am a fan of them because you can re-use them for a few months depending on how often you wear them. I feel better about not throwing away disposable pads everyday creating more waste in our landfills. Hope this helps and you are enjoying your newborn!

I don't know about LilyPadz. I know that Lansinoh pads work really well. I particularly prefer the ones with the adhesive backing. Congrats on the baby.

I used them and got a yeast infection. It was a bad deal. I don't recommend these, they don't breath, they're just plastic...
