Lipo or a Garage Door?

Okay... I'll start by saying, I work out and eat right. I am almost at my ideal weight, but by stomach is a flabby mess. I researched cosmetic surgery options and decided on "Tickle Lipo" because the procedure is done with local anesthesia and only requires four small incisions. I discussed this with my husband and he is 100% against the idea. When I ask him why, he says that I should just be happy the way I am. Well, I'm not. He said he would rather use the money to get a new garage door. I am a working mom and I never do anything for myself. Should I squash the idea or go for it?

Garage door.

Lipo is not a magic fix, not guaranteed to not have some sort of possible horrid side effect.

Get the door and go to a gym

Garage Door.

I worked with two women who had this done - it didn't "Stick" and thousands of dollars later they had nothing to show for it. One did it against her hubby's wishes (he thought she looked great + the couldn't afford it) and it helped hammer the last nail in the coffin of their marriage.

I would get the garage door and invest in a pilates class, personal trainer or something similar for yourself instead.
Lipo just takes out the fat, does nothing for the stretched out skin and blown out muscles that's more likely the cause.

With your husband, what's the real issue? The money or the surgery? If it's the money and it would all be out of pocket without being covered by insurance because it's a vanity procedure, then you both really have to agree on the finances of it. It's not a matter of your money versus his money because all money coming into the home belongs to the entire family. If it's a matter of the procedure, then you have to ease his fears and concerns about it.

If you had medical reasons requiring the surgery then I would be more pushy with him about it, but if you had medical reasons for it then money would be less of an issue and your insurance would be more likely to cover most of the bill.

If it were me, I would get the garage door and slowly put money aside for the lipo. I don't think you should let go of the idea completely, we all need to feel good about ourselves, but if you need a new garage door that badly, it makes more sense to get that first. Start tucking little bits of money aside for the procedure, and by the time you have all you need, maybe your hubby will be more used to the idea!

If extra skin is your problem - don't get lipo. You will only be stuck with even more loose skin. The only solution for that is a tummy tuck.

If your skin is taught, but you just have one area that has excess fat, lipo will work for that.

However, I don't know about convincing your husband. Can you just have surgery without him being angry about it? That to me seems to be the bigger issue.

I go through the same type of thing when I'm PMS'ing. I'm a stay at home mom, and we've plenty of money for surgery but two things stop me. 1. I'm not fond of the idea of paying anyone to cut, burn, or abrade my skin, and 2. If I'm going to sink thougsands of dollars on something, I'd like for us all to benefit-like a vacation, home item, emergency, etc. and also, then my peroid comes and goes and I realize I look darn good for having two kids as well. I'm not giving my family's hard earned anything to any person or industry that wants to make me feel inferior in order to finance their 4th new sportscar in two years. it's just not gonna happen

Lipo doesn't get rid of skin, that's why your stomach is like that. It won't fix you in the way you want. Only a tummy tuck will. Get the garage door.

The problem with lipo is that the fatty deposits gravitate to some other location on the body. Listen to your husband. Opt for the garage door and learn how to love all of you. That is where I'm living too but it's alright.

Go for it!

I'm having a full tummy tuck and lipo on my arms in November.
Like you, I work out like crazy and eat clean. But after 2 kids, and years of unhappiness and inability to change the shape of my disproportionately huge arms....I'm doing it!

Check with different doctors. Mine takes Care Credit and Chase Health Advance - both of which allow you to make interest free payments, which might be a little more palatable for your hubby. (Or for you to do on your own!)

Go for it mama!

I think you should go see the doctor first to see if this is something even available for your body type. Your doctor can recommend a great procedure for you. After speaking to the doctor then make the decision of surgery or garage door.

Look into the recovery period for lipo. I worked in the intimate apparel dept at Penney's, I had a lady come in who had had lipo and she had to wear very tight shapewear for 6 months after the lipo so her body wouldn't retain water in the lipoed areas and to tighten her skin. I've been to Upland, it's HOT there. Do you really want to have to wear shapewear for 6 months?

I think a better way to go about this is to look into joining a gym and having a few sessions with a personal trainer to find the best exercises to flatten your tummy. And look into the cost of a garage door. You may be able to afford both.

I recently read that after liposuction, the body stores fat somewhere else. For instance it starts storing it in the upper arms and over the back of the shoulder area. Apparently the body is programed to store fat and if you take it's prime target cells away it goes to a secondary choice. The procedure backfires for this reason. To get rid of the fat on your stomach, the best bet is a combination of varied exercise and healthy diet choices. If that's not working, then perhaps you need to have a tuck instead to get rid of the excess skin.

My understanding is that you are not looking to get rid of fat, you are looking to get rid of excess skin after losing weight correct ? You say you're almost at your ideal weight. Is the rest of your body firm and in shape? If that is the case, then yes, I think you should do something that will fix your tummy to be the way you would like it to be. You say you've researched this method, so I'll assume you know it's supposed to work for your particular issue.

Now, to answer your actual question - yes, I think you should feel okay doing something for yourself. I think it's sweet that your husband loves you just the way you are, and wants you to love yourself the way he loves you.

With that said, there are things we simply aren't happy with, and therefore we change them. Whether it be bleaching/coloring your hair, getting fake nails, teeth whitening, or cosmetic surgery, most people do something to themselves that is not necessarily what they were born with.

First, try to understand why he doesn't want you to do something that would make you happy - is it because he's afraid of the surgery consequences? Is it that he thinks you'll be out of commission and will need him to take on a bigger burden at home? Is it just that he doesn't think you should spend that much on you? If it were something else that you wanted to do for you, but cost the same amount of money, would he feel the same way, or is it just that he can't justify spending money on cosmetic surgery? If it's the latter, then he's being a bit selfish - it's not about him and what he thinks is justified.

Clearly, it's not really the money, because he's willing to spend it on a garage door. Unless your garage door is falling down and you are unable to do both, then I say, try to convince him that you're doing this is something you really want to do for you.

I'm sure if you work on him a bit, he'll come around;)

In my opinion you should be able to feel good, however, make sure that you do get your husband to understand and support the decision. He doesn't have to agree with you..tell him that you love that he loves you the way that you are and express your feeling about it. It's nice that he feels good about your body but you need and deserve to feel good. I wouldn't do this until you get his support just because it should be a positive thing and if you are anything like me, I like it when my husband at least gets my support for money spent in the household.

Good luck and enjoy your new belly :)

Lipo hurts, just so you know, and the results are NEVER as good as you would like. Take the $$$ and invest in a good workout routine. I lost over 6 inches doing Pilates reformer with Eden Pilates. Skin tone cannot be made better by surgery, that would require a tummy TUCK, so you might end up with just more loose skin. I don't agree with your hubby though, you should take the funds and do something for YOU!!!!

Have you looked into Body Sculpt? From what I understand its better than lipo because its not as invasive (although I know lipo isn't as invasive as it used to be in the first place) basically what I understood it to be was the inject saline into your fat cells which then shrink them. You have to make sure you go to someone highly recomended though because its almost like sculpting-its an artistic talent. I see them alot in day spas and such which have the certified docs to come in and do it but I would research and research the person before I decided because there are alot of them out there who are certified but don't actually know what they are doing-make sure you find someone who does........anyways its cheaper I believe and less invasive but overall its your body and you work too so I would say do it but not if it's going to cause problems or issues with the hubby.....I would let him know how unhappy you are with your own body and explain to him it effects you on so many levels. It's hard to get a man to understand all those things......but maybe if you approached him with the body sculpt he might just be more open-minded about it. The thing is if you don't maintain it it will come back but you already said you excercise so that shouldn't be an issue for you -good luck. I so wish I had the funds to do it myself! That darn pooch from my twins just won't go away!

I would go with the garage door, sorry.

Here is the reason, part of the reason your stomach is flabby isn't fat but extra skin. Lipo will do nothing to remove the skin and the procedure to remove the skin. Well look it up online, yikes!
