Happy Anniversary
My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary next month and I'm trying to think of some fun and creative ways to celebrate. For many reasons, we're not able to take a trip (primarily a scheduling/vacation days issue) so it will have to be something local. Any ideas? We go out to eat somewhat frequently so am not sure how special that will be...just looking for maybe some special ideas to recognize our 20 years together. Have had our ups and downs like any couple but have made it this far! :-) Thanks for your help!
Thanks already for the ideas! I am editing to clarify that we cannot take a weekend staycation either as our weekends are committed already and/or childcare is unavailable in the weeks surrounding our anniversary and then it is the busy holiday season. We might postpone and do something bigger in January but I was mainly looking for ideas to commemorate our 20 years together rather than a weekend away. Thanks and keep the ideas coming!

Can you do an overnight? A spa would be nice, couples massage, nice bottle of wine.
Have a catered dinner party at your home. Pay a company to cook, serve and clean. You are near Houston, so check HCC or LoneStar College to see if there is a culinary program that will do it cheaply.
A night at a romantic B&B. Do you like theater? An outing to see a special play or musical. Something that is reminiscent of your first date or where/how you got engaged?
Ditch the kids for a night, book a hotel room and a nice restaurant. Brunch out the next day and maybe a walk along a lake or beach, depending on where you live. Enjoy.
Take a weekend trip. My husband and I like to send the kids to a friends for the weekend, then we drive an hour up to the lake and stay overnight in a nice resort hotel. We take a walk on the beach, get a massage at the spa, have dinner in a nice restaurant, take a swim in the pool, open a bottle of wine. We have a nice breakfast in the morning, go for a hike, go out for lunch and head home.
We are celebrating our 20th next July. We have planned for a long time and saved a lot of frequent flyer miles, so we will be spending that time in Italy. What I am really excited about is that I am going to surprise him by reciting the lyrics to "How long will love you?" by The Waterboys (we both love them and this song) somewhere beautiful and special...haven't decided on the exact spot. So my suggestion is to find a special moment and place and find a way to say what you feel in your heart.
How long will I love you
As long as there are stars above you
And longer if I can
How long will I need you
As long as the seasons need to
Follow their plan
How long will I be with you
AS long as the sea is bound to
Wash upon the sand
How long will I want you
As long as you want me to
And longer by far
How long will I hold you
As long as your father told you
As long as you are
How long will I give to you
As long as I live through you
However long you say
How long will I love you
As long as stars are above you
And longer if I may
You could make an album of pictures of you as a couple over the last 20 years (or longer) and share it with him. Would be a nice walk down memory lane together. Congratulations!
Happy Anniversary!
-20 years is China & platinum so how about if you do something fun but
inexpensive like get Chinese take out & serve it on silver plates at home.
-Rent your favorite movie from Redbox & watch it together.
-Recreate your first date. You can even do this at home.
-Do some fun games at home w/just you & hubby.
-If you live in the same area that you met in, go out to the same place you had your first date if it's still open for business.
-Recreate your first date "at home".
-List 20 things you love about your husband
-Get him his favorite beverage & have a toast.
-Light candles, play some of your favorite music from the time when you met, make a list of things you want to accomplish over the next 20 yrs.
-get each other a small gift to commemorate your anniversary, spend a nice relaxed evening together at home (a night in, if you will).
-some local newspapers have a free classified area where you can write a little note to your hubby.
