Looking for a Sweet Little Break

Hi, we are looking to go somewhere to go with the kids for about 4 days. We live in the dfw area and I either want to take a train or drive. (I don't like flying) I would love your experiences with taking little trips around here that are kid friendly. Maybe there some places that we are not aware of.
We thought about driving to Galveston since they have moody gardens there, but I was looking for something a little different.
Not too expensive but fun!

Thanks in advance - I am open to all ideas.

W.

Have you thought of San Antonio? We take took our 2 year old there last year for her birthday and she had a blast. We stayed at the Hyatt Hill Country. You really don't even have to leave the hotel to have a great time.

There are some great horse/adventure ranches right outside the DFW area. They have campfires, horseback riding, etc.
Here is one that my hubby and I have considered and we don't have kids yet. It looks very family friendly:

We had some friends stay at the new Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine recently (kids age 8, 6, 4). They loved it! It has lots of activities, especially the large indoor waterpark. It sounds like the cheapest rooms in resort are about $225-$275 per night (depending on the type of room and when you go). But, you'll save on gas if you're not having to drive very far. Be sure to click on the "early bird savings" button. You can even get a room for $179/night with these promotions.

To go along with another moms response, San Antonio also has SeaWorld, the Alamo, the Riverwalk and a 6 Flags Fiesta Texas. It might be cheaper to drive b'c you'd probably need to rent a car if you go by train.

With the rates at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, I think the room rate includes family tickets to the indoor waterpark.
