Looking for a Weekend Get Away!

I have three children ranging from 2 years to 14 years old and looking for a weekend get away. We have explored the possibility of going somewhere in Michigan near the Warren Dunes and looking for a nice town to stay. Has anyone vacationed near there that might be able to recommend a hotel? We are looking for a place that would have things of interest to all members of my family. We are not committed to this area only and all suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

Mom and Dad use to take us to the Dunes also. We stayed in New Buffalo Michigan at a resort called Camp Sokol. There was motel accomodations or log cabins for the more outdoorsey of families. There was a huge REC building where the meals are served, juke box never stopped and games for all. Also, my friends still go to Holland, Michigan...similar situation with lots of little antique shops and the whitest of all beaches. Have fun. Indiana Dunes is even closer and the hotel is in Chesterton on rte. 49 and the Dunes are 1 1/2 miles on 49 in the opposite direction. The hotel is like an Indian style resort with a swimming pool; child friendly.

Have you ever looked at the website, www.vrbo.com? It's vacation rentals by owner. you might be able to find a cute little house for the weekend. good luck!

Indiana beach has an amusemant park. Mini golf camping or lodging. There is also awater park and a beach area for the kids and you can play in the sand with the little one while the older ones go on the water rides. good luck

We've done a weekend trip to St. Joseph's the last two summers.

This year we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. The kids loved the pool! They had a continental breakfast - eggs, sausage/bacon, toast, bagels, donuts, fruit, cereal, so much more (lots of seating) in the morning. The hotel is right on the main highway.

St. Joseph's is lined with little shops to explore. The kids loved it too. Bookstore, toy store, antique stores, five & dime, Chocolate Factory (yummy!), ice cream shop, a shop similar to "Build a Bear" ... There is also a Children's Museum downtown along the shops. The beach is walking distance from downtown.

There are painted/decorated small boats throughout the town. The kids can sit in them - great photo opportunities. Last year they had cars.

The kids are ready to go back again.

My one comment is DO NOT stay at the Silver Beach Hotel downtown unless you are able to inspect the rooms first. Last year they were horrible - smelled, gaping holes in the blankets...

I'm actually from Michigan and think a good weekend getaway would be in Saugatuck which is on Lake Michigan. When I hear Warren Dunes I think camping, which is a lot of fun but it sounds like you'd rather stay in a hotel. Saugatuck is beautiful and there is a lot to do as well. Another fun weekend getaway is to Wisconsin Dells. If you stay at one of the big resort hotels (the Wilderness, the Great Wolf, etc.) you really don't even have to leave the place, we always have a great time there since they have zero depth pools for the little ones. My kids can't get enough of it.

Hello, I haven't been to that area but we have vacationed to Silver Lake, Mi and they have tons to do. It's gorgeous there. If you have extra $ there is a ferry that will take you accross Lake Michigan which is really cool and saves some of your time and gas. I believe it's called the Lake Express. Look up Silver Lake I am sure you will lov it. Have a fun vacation. Jen
