Looking for Highchair

I have a Fisher Price Space Saver model that attaches to a regular kitchen chair. We really love it. I have recommended it to all my friends. Inexpensive, neutral colors, small, easy to clean, easy to move. It is around $50 at Target.

I did a lot of research on highchairs and then wound up paying $25 for the Antilop at Ikea, which is great! it doesn't have all of the features like the other more expensive ones, like padding, recline, etc., but I found that I didn't even need them. The Ikea chair is all hard plastic and super easy to clean. It is exactly the right height for the table and we can bring our son right up to it, either with or without the tray (sold seperately). I would highly recommend it...and for the price, you can't beat it!

I have been using the Safety 1st Recline and Grow 5-Stage Feeding Seat. It is fantastic. Like you, I was feeding my son on my lap. I can't believe it took me so long to start using this chair. It is so much easier than my son sitting on my lap for meal time. I think that he loves spreading out his food on his tray. You can get this portable high chair at Babies r us.

Take into account your space. We live in a small condo and I have a big, bulky high chair (Baby Trend - about $80). I've seen those clip ons and wondered if that would have made more sense. Other things to think about - a good high chair should recline for early eaters that don't sit up on their own yet - and should be easy to clean. I also like the option of being able to use a tray or push up to the table. I like the Baby Trend for being able to sit in multiple positions - but this one from IKEA sounds good and doesn't do that - so maybe I've overestimated the need for them to recline. The last thing to think about is size. Until he was about13 months old, my son looked so small in his high chair. The tray was just up to high - and he's an average-sized kid. If possible, take Sadie to the stores with you and try some out...
One last thing - Although you should never leave a child alone in one of those Bumba seats (sp?) -or Bebe pods - I started feeding my son with him sitting on the table in those seats. I don't think he was in the high chair regularly until about 9 months.

Here's my "Live and Learn" advice: We got this big, padded high chair, I think a Graco, that was very sturdy and I have no complaints about the chair itself. The thing is that there's fabric covering the seat, and I was washing the darn thing every other day. I ended up just taking the cover off. The highchair was also very big and heavy. THEN... My husband and I were at IKEA with our daughter who was 7mo at the time. We all needed a snack and were sitting in their cafeteria and there were these awesome highchairs that were simple, moulded plastic that were very light weight and easy to clean. Lo and behold, they were for sale! We bought one, and it's the best purchase I ever made. The legs even come out so we can throw it in the trunk to bring to Grandma's house. The highchair is called ANTILOP, and it is wonderful. And it's cheap... really cheap! You can either use the highchair pushed up to the table or purchase the tray separately. It's a wonderful item and so much more practical than those oversized, overfrabiced chairs at commercial baby stores.

hi! we've found each other again!! it's A. from birthing class... hope things are going great with you guys! we still need to get together!! i fell off the face of the earth bcs i was studying for my LCPC licensing exam. well i just took and passed it!!! so i'm back! :)

i LOVE our high chair. it's one of those wooden european ones - it's a svan. we got it used on craigslist for $100 which is well worth it to me - the same cost as a new big ugly plastic one. they're hard to find though! i was on the hunt for about a month until i scored one. the clip-on seats are nice for later, but they're just not that stable for a really new eater.

does sadie love avocados? that's gavin's favorite! i blend them with tofu and he LOOOOVES it. also, if you don't have one... brian got me an immersion blender for my bday and it is AWESOME for quickly making baby food. i don't know why i'd never heard of them before!!

I really like my Safety 1st Recline and Grow Chair. It straps onto a dining chair. I got it for $30 at Babies R Us. I like it because it doesn't take up as much space as a regular high chair, we can take it with us if we go to a friend's house for dinner, it is easy to clean, and it grows with the needs of your child.
