T.K.
Definitely include jazz! Miles Davis' Kind of Blue is transcendent! Dave Brubeck, too. And don't forget the jazz crooners, like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Frank Sinatra! Enjoy!
I'm looking to start a music collection for our baby. I know there is a ton of stuff out there...does anyone have any recommendations for "must-have" lullabye music?

My favorite is "Dedicated to the One I lLove" by Linda Ronstadt. She sings classic rock love songs very gently as lulabys. Amazon has them.

TRY BRAHMS LULLABY it is lovely
Our sons loved Pure Imagination by Michael Feinstein and Return To Pooh Corner by Kenny Loggins.
Yes! My absolute favorite is by Putamayo: Dreamland. Love, love, love it!!
We love Late Night Guitar by Tom Salvatori. My son listens to it every night (he's now 19 months) and it works like a charm!
We LOVE The Innocence Mission, Now the Day is Over. The lead singer has a beautiful, folksy voice and while the music is very relaxing it doesn't feel "baby-ish" or dumbed down like so many children's CD's do. I'll continue listening to this one even once my little guy is big.
a CD titled Sing Over Me -- I've played it in both my boy's room 24/7 from infancy! then, it's easy to take a copy with me when I'm needing them to sleep somewhere other than at home. Hope that helps!
We love Rockabye Baby music. They make lullaby renditions of adult favorites. My favorite is Coldplay. You can listen to the music on their website. Its roackabyebabymusic.com
I love the Putumayo CDs. We have the Celtic Dreamland one, and the African lullabies one. They are both gorgeous. They have fun 'daytime' music too, and it's a great way to introduce your child to music styles around the world. We're loving the Latin Playground cd right now - makes you want to get up and dance with your baby!
We loved Elizabeth Mitchell. She has 4 cd's including one she did with Lisa Loeb. They are not specifically lullaye music but she has a very soothing voice. My girls enjoy listening to her & it is the type of music that I would listen to even if they were not in the car.
We have the Baby Einstein "Lullaby Classics" and both of our kids love it! My son calls it his "sleepy music." I bought mine in a large set from Costco, but I've seen the individual cd at Target.
"On a Starry Night" is our family favorite; My girls are 9 and 12 and still prefer this CD to any other while falling asleep. There's also a "Good Night Moon" DVD that includes bedtime stories and lullabies by famous artists, if you're looking multi-media ;-)
We really like this.

Putumayo has GREAT stuff. I have all of theirs and I have the rockabye baby stuff---my child doesn't seem to like it though.
Rockabye Baby! Cds are interesting. I really only LOVED The Cure one, but you might like others.

Also, the Mozart Effect CDs are great!
Doesn't have to be lullaby CDs ... music YOU like will do. Our baby responds quite well to the Beatles ... (He is 11 1/2 months) ... So whenever we need him to calm down, or lull him to sleep, we plop a Beatles CD in and off he goes ...
We like the Rockabye Bady CDs, also.
I second the Rockabye Baby stuff, and I agree that Coldplay's, The Scientist, translates probably the best to a lullaby. We've downloaded several songs from iTunes, and our girls, 5 and 2, love them. Also, our girls like Celine Dion Miracle, which has some beautiful songs, especially when you listen to the lyrics. My youngest loves Come To Me, and she sings it in her crib when she wakes up in the morning while she waits for us to come get her.
My husband put all the Rockabye Baby cd's on our daughters ipod and she has all the Baby Einstein stuff too.
I got a cd for my shower called Dreamland World Lullabies & Soothing Songs. http://www.putumayo.com/en/putumayo_kids.php I have also gotten the Celtic Dreamland by the same company. I think there are a few other titles too. Some of the songs are a little weird, but it is nice to not have the SAME OLD lullabies playing all the time. I get so sick of hearing twinkle twinkle, and there are only so many ways to make it original. (actually, I dont think there is a way to make it original). You can listen to samples of each song on the website. If you don't like the whole albums you can find individual tracks by the artists on iTunes.
Kevin Roth's Lullabies for Little Dreamers - I use it at my daycare and it is magic, non sleepers sleep wonderfully listening to it, and it even relaxes me.
Disney Lullaby Album was our favorite when our son was a baby. Elizabeth Mitchell is good too, but better when they are little bit older.
