Do any of you moms make your own exfoliate body scrub? I have one I love from Shea - almond and honey - but I want to make my own if it is cheaper. What is your recipe?

What can I do next?

Sugar and/or salt work great to scrub dead/dry skin.
There are tons of recipes out there.

For feet - did you know pineapple contains an enzyme that is wonderful for softening hard callouses/skin on your feet?
You can puree several cups of fresh pineapple, add some Epsom salts and a few cups of warm milk (lactic acid) and soak your feet for 20 min or longer. Rinse, use a pumice stone to rub the softened dead skin off and you are going to LOVE how your feet feel!

If you are at the beach, some people will take a little beach sand, mix it with a little sun tan oil - and use that to scrub their legs and feet.
It's great to rinse off in the ocean (or lake) but I wouldn't want to wash sand down any drain in the home - rinse off outside with a hose.

For years, I kept a bottle of my favorite oil in the shower, then would bring a small bowl of sugar with me into the shower a few times each week. I'd just scoop some sugar in my hand, add a squirt of oil and rub it wherever it was needed. I never premixed it, because then I had to stir it and scoop it out anyway, so it just seemed like the same amount of work, haha. Have fun!

Just a note--if you're using essential oils as some have suggested, please realize that citrus oils can cause sun sensitivity (phototoxicity), resulting in sunburn (http://www.essentialoils.co.za/sun-sensitivity.htm). Other eo's are not safe for certain situations (rosermary eo is a no-no for pregnant women; rosemary the herb in food is okay, but the eo is very very concentrated and is not safe).

Sweet almond oil or jojoba work very well, but sunflower & olive are also good. Mix it up with sugar or salt right before applying. Rinse off with or without soap.

I have just used a handful of granulated sugar and it works great, but after reading other responses I'm going to try it with some olive oil.

Almond oil and white sugar also makes a good scrub. Experiment with the ratio you prefer of each. You can use brown sugar instead (it's coarser and therefore rougher) and can use olive oil as others noted. I dislike baby oil (it's just pure mineral oil, which is dangerous to ingest, so why would I want it near me or my kid?) so I prefer the edible natural oils like almond and olive. I even use warmed olive oil on my daughter's dry scalp.

I make this for Christmas gifts:

Mix together 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon and 1/2 cup sugar, and store in a covered container in the fridge.

I also make another one using olive oil and raw sugar with extract to scent it. Lemon is good for summer, peppermint is good for winter.

I was being silly one day and mixed olive oil and sugar, and exfoliated with that. I was surprised at how well it actually worked! I still use it sometimes. You could use other kinds of oils, though, it's just what I happened to have.

I bet there's some good recipes out there if you search online, it probably would be a lot cheaper. I know I spend way too much money on cosmetics, but I can't help it, I'm addicted! :-)

I like to mix Kosher salt, olive oil, and brown sugar together into a paste. It works really well!

My friend makes her own with Epsom Salt and Baby Oil. She just rubs it all over then rinses it off, she may use soap like int he shower but I don't know that for sure.
