L.U.
That happened about 20 miles north of me. My friend is a crisis counselor at the neighboring high school and used to work there.
It is terrifying that it is so close to us. And so so so sad.
I talked with both of my boys today about it. I had 5 points that I shared with them.
#1 - I love them.
#2 - If you EVER see anybody with a gun, hear about a student with a gun, a student shows you a gun in his backpack...you immediately tell an adult. The very first adult you see.
#3 - We are not bullies. I do not ever want to hear about you bullying someone. And if you see someone bullying I expect you to step in. "Hey Nick, cut it out. Here, let me help you up." An act of kindness is so important.
#4 - If you EVER feel sad and depressed, you are getting bullied, you feel like you are drowning...please come and talk to me or dad. Grandparents, aunts, uncles...an adult that can talk with us. It's our job as the parents to help you through whatever problem you are having, find a doctor if we can't, a counselor, medication. Please NEVER feel like you are alone.
#5 - IF your school ever goes on lockdown always listen to the teacher. Be very quite. Do not try to be a hero. I want you home safe.
I have been praying for the school, students, staff, victims all day.
