Medicaid Help!!!!!

So recently we were approved for medicaid. Up until now we've been paying cash for all pediatrician visits for our two girls ages 2 yrs. and 4 mos. It was really difficult to find a doctor that i was comfortable with and so i've had a hard time with the system of "picking a doctor from a list" that medicaid employs. I've been especially nervous regarding my younger daughter who has a few health issues, one being a large mole on her head that will need to be removed. On monday i took her to her first visit with the Medi. doctor that i picked. We live in downtown and chose one at baylor (where she was born) it literally took us FOUR HOURS to be seen and get shots WITH an appointment. I asked if this was typical and the receptionist just shook her head. I was not comfortable with the doctor. It seemed like it was such a job for her. It's amazing the difference in care. They didn't even asked the "milestone" questions and when i asked questions she seemed bothered by me. Maybe it was just me that bothered her. I wanted to know if there was anyone who had any good experiences with a medicaid doctor? on the parkland plan. I am willing to drive a bit for a good doctor. We definitely need to keep using it my husbands start up company just recently flopped and there is no way we can afford insurance or paying cash. Thank you thank you for any advice!!!

What can I do next?

Yes...they make things VERY difficult....and you have to keep filling out all different types of paperwork and what not....I delivered my son with Medicaid....husband is a bartender and they don't offer insurance.....it became so difficult to deal with that we eventually dropped it and went to an individual plan....i have kept my same pedi though.....he name is Dr. Friedman and he has an office in Richardson as well as somewhere downtown.....he accepts ALOT of Medicaid patients...we REALLY like him...he is older and sometimes hard to understand...but he is GREAT with shots and stuff and my son LOVES him...I will tell you that he is HELL BENT on vaccinations...so if you are against them in any way I wouldn't suggest going to him...BUT...that being said...he is kind and gentle and to the point....qualities that I have really enjoyed....Hope this helps.....

Shlomo Friedman is is his full name.....

Hi H.,

I have actually had very nice care with medicaid doctors. Both OB and pedi. However, I never cared to much for the pedis anywhere I went.
You really just need more time to search for the doctor that fits your family best. When I was a kid growing up, my parents always had the best insurance for me and it was still hard finding a good caring family doctor.
I switched my kids to a family doctor that sees children from 6 mnths all the way through adult hood.
I absolutely LOVE this clinic and both doctors are awesome.
I'm one of the luckier ones who've had better experiences with the medicaid doctors. Also, try and stick with the doctors that run smaller clinics, any pedi associated with hospitals is going to be extremely busy!

Dr. Weldon Johnson and Dr. Brooke

They're located in Rowlett so might be a drive for you but well worth it. They really do "listen" to what's wrong and take time with you so you never feel rushed. I LOVE these doctors and will continue to go there as long as they're open!
Good luck with your search!

Both of my kids have multiple health issues and I have never found a decent pedi....that being said, I have found wonderful, amazing specialists - both my kids have even had neurosurgery and Medicaid paid for it all ...... no insurance gives full reimbursement and from what I have been told and seen the docs don't take it (actually they all have to take it in emergency situations) because of the clientel that are not on time and tear up their offices......I have never had an issue with what Medicaid will pay for, in fact have found the specialists to say they pay for a wide variety of things that other companies do not pay for.......good luck...

You are definately not alone! A lot of doctors don't like taking medicaid because they don't get rembursed in full. They only get a certain percentage. It takes me forever to get my kids seen at any Dr. office even if there is an appointment.

Your concerns with your doctor may or may not be related to the fact that you're a medicaid patient. A good doctor will treat every patient equally, regardless of who's paying for the services. Unfortunately, there are some unscrupulous doctors who treat patients differently based on how they will be paid. And, you can blame Medicaid for that - since doctors and hospitals don't get reimbursed 100% for the cost of providing care (average rates right now are 70-80 cents for every dollar of care - and it decreases regularly). And, then there are just bad doctors who treat every patient as nothing but a source of income and not a human being. I'd find another doctor, because chances are, even if you had traditional health insurance, you'd probably still be treated the same way. Try another pediatrician affiliated with Baylor - there are some great ones in that system. You can call 1-800-4BAYLOR to find one that's near you and accepts medicaid.

Dr. George Salamon ###-###-#### in Plano takes medicaid. I take my kids to him and I have insurance. He is great...never have to wait more that 10 minutes, if that, and he is very concise. I have used him since my 9 year old was 3. He is Hungarian, so he has a very thick accent. He doesn't mind if you ask him to repeat...he knows he is a little hard to understand sometimes. Also, he administers all vaccinations, not his nurse. Overall, I am very happy with his office.
