Medical Schools in Ohio

I need some help here. I am trying to find a medical school around the area I live (Northwest Ohio). The only ones I am finding are in the big cities like Detroit, Akron, Columbus, etc. I was hoping to find something closer but I cannot find anything. I know that this shouldn't be a huge ordeal, but when you have 3 kids younger than 4 years, it is. If I cannot find a medical school around here (either MD or DO), then I will need to look for a different dream.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I am going to play 'devil's advocate' here. In September, this is what you wrote (COPIED and PASTED):
"Also, any LPN's if you could please let me know your experience in school I would appreciate it. Our school program here is a 10 month course and I know it is fast paced but if you have the determination, you can do it. I know RN school is very hard but I was just curious how hard the LPN schooling was too."

Within an hour of this current question, you asked, how people had the energy to do what they do and you can't function without 7 hours of sleep. If you go to Nursing or Medical school, you can kiss that 7 hours good-bye, think more like 4.

You have 3 little children. If you are questioning how hard is LPN or RN schooling, how is it realistic that you are thinking MEDICAL school???? Medical school is at least a hard, full time 6 to 8 YEARS of 'nose to the grindstone dedication', and you need background, pre-requisites, college education in the sciences, and a proven track record before you can be considered to even apply, and you have to LIVE there, once you get past the hardcore med school, then the residencies and internships, they could be across the country, and you have to live there too.

I work with a pharmacist, who's husband is in med school, and he has not "lived" with her for over 2 years, her job and baby is in KC. and she lives with, and takes care of her aging parents, while he was in Texas for several months, now in Salt Lake City, for a few months, and they see each other about every 4 to 6 weeks for a weekend or at most, a few days. They still have several months to go before he is done, then he will have to find a job somewhere.

With medical school, figure on being an absent parent. Go to local college and look into curriculum and what it takes to get started. I am guessing that you haven't been to college??? In Sept. 2010 you wrote that you were scared to ask your husband about letting you go to nursing school because he says, "I can't let you go to school because you always quit, how do I know you won't quit this".

It sounds to me like you don't really know what you want and that you have a 'pipe dream', not a realistic goal. You were asking questions about a 'career' back in 2008.

I hope you truly find what you are looking for, but the direction you are going is going to take a lot of life changes and hard work, but you have to get started somewhere to move on. If you haven't been to college and graduated, you have a long way to go to start application process for med school.

If you REALLY want to to go to med school you will move to whatever school will accept you. It is CRAZY competitive... most people will move anywhere if they can just get in.
You can do this even with kids - but you have to pace yourself. It is NOT like you are going to pick a school and start there tomorrow. We are talking about YEARS of preparation, getting an undergrad degree, taking the MCAT and then...eventually applying. Depending on how old your youngest is, by the time you actually start med school he or she may be in school as well, making things a lot easier for you.
Take one step at a time. You can start your journey at the community college next door, just meet with an adviser.
Good luck!

You are aware that you need a 4 year degree (most commonly in biology) before you can apply to med school, right?
I just remember your last question saying you had 1 year of medical assisting....

You need to talk to an adviser at a four-year school that has a pre-med major, complete all the requirements and then prepare for the MCAT and once you have that under your belt you can look to apply to medical school.

There aren't that many medical schools in Ohio. I found a list on Wikipedia and there are only 7. There is no guarantee that you would even get into your first choice of schools if you applied. You have to apply to about 20 schools in the beginning. It's highly competitive. My fiance's daughter just went through this process two years ago and ended up in Wisconsin -- not Illinois or Iowa like she'd planned -- because there was one med school there that would accept her. And she had perfect grades, a great MCAT score and lots and lots of extracurricular work in the medical field.

You need to find a good adviser who can walk you through this process and give you advice on how to proceed.
