The American Red Cross has a care package program..

You can call your local USO and find out when soldiers are arriving home from being deployed and meeting them at the airport with signs and flags...

I think you are near Fort Sam Houston - an Army base - right? Contact the base operator and ask for the Mission Support offices - tell them what you want to do and they should be able to direct you to the appropriate person..

I don't know the website, but Michelle Obama and Jill Biden have an organization that lets you know how to get involved in your community. Thanks for the post. I keep wanting to check it out and I always forget.

Go to AnySoldiers.com and they will have a list of solders from all the military service branches and what you can send to them through the postal system. There are men and women and they will usually let you know how many are in their group so that you can send for all. I say this because they usually share what they get with others.

It is a nice thing that you want to show your appreciation this way. I say thank you. The soldier will say thank you. But you must remebmer that they may be in an area where they will not be able to send a note back for quite some time.

Several years ago I used this site to find a few soldiers overseas and send them things. If you should send personal care products do send them in a separate box than any food snacks as the scents travel and get into the food.

First I just want to thank you for being so kind to want to do this for our troops. Being a Military Wife it is good to know that there are people out there willing to do this. Not all of our troops have a family or people that will send them stuff so it's nice that you want to do this. Not necessarily for those without families but for our troops in general.

I may not be any help in giving you advice on where to gain info to send packages. I have my hubby's address and right now that's all I need.

I also recieved a letter of what you can and cant send in care packages. If you want I can send you a copy of this if you are not familiar with the dos and dont's. Thank you again for what you are doing or plan to do and I hope you get the references that you are seeking.

You have been given some great suggestions so far, but don't forget about the VFW. Contact a local VFW and tell them what you want to do. They should be able to tell you about legitimate organizations that support the troops and send care packages.
