Hi K.,

I just got Mirena about a month ago and so far its great! I took an ibuprofen an hour before I went in and when it was inserted I only felt a small pinch. I have been spotting for a few weeks...very light. Apparently this is normal for the first weeks/months, but no biggie. I haven't noticed any side effects which is great. Some people said they had acne, weight gain, hair falling out. I haven't had any of that. I also thought about Paraguard but I didn't want a heavy period and after reading up on them both I decided to go with Mirena. I had an awful time remembering to take the pill so this is awesome. Good luck!

I had the Mirena inserted in May after my daughter was born in March, and I have been VERY pleased with it. It was uncomfortable to get it put in, but not horrible, and I had some cramping and spotting that afternoon, but nothing since. I can't feel it and have had no side effects. I have yet to have a period, though I just stopped breastfeeding 2 weeks ago, so that could play a part.

I chose the Mirena over the Paragard because I had gotten several recommendations from friends for the Mirena. No one I knew had had the Paragard.

I love not having to remember to take birth control. Also, my husband and I are *pretty* sure that we are done having kids, but I didn't want to do anything permanent yet, so this is a nice inbetween step, since it is good for up to 5 years.

I've had Mirena since 2007. Let me just put it this way, I've had the same box of tampons & liners since 2007 - - - I'm wondering if there's an expiration!?!?!?!?

The only drawback - You can't use your little visitor as an excuse to get out of the naughty with your husband (though I have been busted on more than one occasion trying!) I am sooo laughing out loud at my own expense right now!

I've never had a problem & would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck.

I had Mirena after my first DS was born. I loved it! I barely felt it when inserted (just very mild menstral-like cramps for a couple minutes after), and didn't feel it at all when it was removed. I never had a period with it, just very light on/off spotting for the first 5 weeks or so. I got pregnant 3.5 months after having it removed. Now my new son is due in 3 weeks! I will get it again after he's born.
