I am 23 years old, and I have a beautiful 19 month old baby girl! I am wondering if anyone knows about the Mirena Ring. I am thinking of trying it and want to hear from some of you who have tried it, or know someone who has. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I am 30 years old and have a 6 year old, a 5 year old and a 6 month old. I have tried the nuva-ring...completely hated it!...also have tried several different pills over the years. All with really bad side effects b/c I am very sensitive to the hormones on all of the above. I had the mirena inserted back in Novemeber right after my 6 week postpartem checkup. I have had no problems what so ever. My obgyn had suggested this to me because of the extremely low hormone level. With the pill my blood pressure went up and I had weight gain. My doctor said that these were not side effects of the mirena and it would only effect from the uterus down. She said that your period would eventually lighten and may even go away all together. I wouldn't know since I am breastfeeding so I haven't gotten a period yet and my son is 6 months old.

Now on the other hand...when it is inserted...it is about the worst cramp you may ever feel but it only lasts for a couple of minutes. My doctor wanted to do it while I was on period because apparently it is less painful and goes in easier but since I am breastfeeding and they didn't know when I would get a period they went ahead and did it. Afterwards, I had a semi-period for only 5 days from the insertion and then nothign since.

I would definitely suggest trying this as most insurances cover it and overall it is supposed to have a lot less side-effects than the pill. Since you are not paying for the pill every month..it is also much cheaper. Just my opinion. Good luck.

So I'm not sure what your asking about, Mirena is an IUD and not a ring, but there is a nuva ring. I have experience with the Mirena IUD, I LOVED it. I put it in a year before taking it out. We really didn't want to get pregnant and after the first 3 months, when they check the placement to make sure it's in right, you are as fully covered as you can be without sterilization, you never forget to change it or take it, so it takes out the "life" factor, where your baby was up all night so you slept in and took your pill 3 hours late (drops the effectiveness of the pill by at least 20%). I bled for a long time at first, but my doctor said to wait it out until my follow-up and if it wasn't gone by then, he was take it out, well of course it stopped before then. The whole time I had it I had some small about of discharge, not blood, just discharge, which I've heard lots of women have, but after about 5 months, my only periods were that discharge becoming tinged red for about a day or maybe 2. Then after a year, much to my surprise from a year ago, we decided we wanted to try to have another baby. I had it taken out at my yearly appt where it hurt really for about 1 sec and then there was no cramping or pain afterwards (I had cramping for about 2 days after it was put in). We haven't actually started trying yet, but we are going to a little later in the summer (use NFP now, so that when we're ready we'll be better able to time pregnancy. Best of luck!!!

I have the Mirena IUD, is that the one you mean?
I have a 4 yr old and a 7 month old and had the Mirena put in at the doctor's office back in early February.
I had some spotting for about 5 weeks as my body adjusted to the hormone levels, but after that it evened out and no problems! I'm having my period right now and it's the lightest I've ever had in my life! = ) I'm hoping over time it will be even less, as I've heard may happen for some.

I had heard only good things from friends who have gotten one, that's why I went with it after exploring a lot of different options and talking with my OB/GYN. In addition to what you find out here, check out the boards at www.babycenter.com to look for more opinions and definitely talk to your OB/GYN about what your options are.

Good luck!

I am a mom of three and I had the Mirena IUD inserted last September. I had my period for 5 consecutive months. I felt I had pms symptoms all of the time and my sex drive was nil. I finally had it removed in January of 08' and after about 2 months I feel back to my old self!! I advise that you do lots of research before you make the decision. It is not cheap!! Good luck.

I love it! I have had it for 1.5-2 years. I do not get my period, I do not have any side affects. Insurance covered most of it, I think I paid $150 out of pocket which is what $7 a month as of now & it is good for 5 years! A Little cramping when they put it in, but we've been through child birth, whats a little cramping? Good Luck!

Hi B.. I just had twins on Feb 1st and 3 weeks ago had Mirena put in. Unfortunatley, after i used a tampon or two (which my OBGYN said I could do) the strings started to come out and I had to pull it out). I think that is VERY unusual, but I decided to just go back to the pill. I know it is very expensive and before my doctor would do it for me, she told me to call my insurance to see if they cover it (which they do). If you can get it covered and really dont want to have to think about anything, I think it is an awesome option. The only thing though, I think, is your periods, however light they may be will be totally unpredicatable, which is something I at least like about the pill-no midday surprises. But ask your doctor. I think unfortunatley, for me, it was a fluke that it came out.
Good luck

I am an OB/GYN triage nurse and I've never heard of the Mirena Ring.
There is the NUVAring. However Mirena is the name brand for a IUD.(The other is Paragard)
Perhaps contact your OB/GYN to determine which form of birth control will be best for you and your family.
Hope this helps!

Hi B.,

I had the Mirena ring and it caused me a lot of problems but I know someone else who has had it for a while and really likes it, so there is a possibility it will work for you. For me it caused me to have a terrible acne reaction. Other women have had similar experiences but some have had positive experiences. I now have a copper IUD and this works great for me.

Take care,
R.

I had Mirena IUD for 2 years and just recently had it removed. Please Please go to curezone.com and read what the other women have wrote. Do alot of research before getting it put in! I would not tell anyone to get that awful thing.
