I was just wondering at what age does the doctor suggest getting the mmr shot? My baby is 11 months old. I thought they suggest the 1st mmr at their 12month well child check? After research & listening to other moms if it is suggested at 12months, I will wait. My son is 6, isnt officially diagnosed as autistic but the doctors are looking into it. He has an appointment to go back to see a developmental doctor at childrens hospital at the end of Oct. for a diagnosis. Thanks for any advice!

So What Happened?

Thanks to those who gave their polite opinions! I will have her get the mmr shot but I am going to ask the doctor if it can wait until she is 2 yrs old. I don't feel people should be speaking about things in a rude way without having done research or know what they were talking about. We all have our opinions I know but there is a way to be tactful. I was asking for advise not a rant.

They recommend it at 12 months. I'm waiting until 2 yrs for my little guy. My dr. seems just fine with that.

Autism is NOT caused from immunications. If that were so then all of us would have autism. Do your research about Autism. You may find that Autism is being diagnosed rather than a multitued of other "disabilities" because insurance companies will pay for autistic people rather than those he have FAS or behavior problems or whatever. By not having you child imminuized you are not only putting your child at risk for contracting desieses but putting the rest of the population at risk as well. That is a big burden to carry. I recently heard that Autism s caused by pregnant women drinking at any time during pregnancy. Now that is any easy problem to solve.

I hope that you are able to follow your mommy instincts. You can always get the vaccine later if your child may be going to a part of the world where these diseases are more common and NOT treatable, unlike the United States. But, you can never undue the damage that the vaccine could be responsible for. I am so sorry that you have to go through this, but I think you should really trust your gut.

Hi, I have a four year old girl. She got her shot when she was one. She had a reaction to the shot nothing serious. I just heard that vaccinations are the cause of autism. I just saw Jenny McCarthy on Larry King and she has a son with autism who she said had recovered. She also wrote a book. Not sure what it is called, but from what I recall, there is no cure, but children can recover. Good Luck. Also here is my question. Did your son just start developing signs of autism or were they there but just got worse.

I like what RUTH said. Way to go Ruth!

I just don't feel it's fair to put my daughter through the vaccination process if other's aren't going to. In a way my 6 year old has saved the ignorant parents butts. Because my 6 year old isn't going to contract deadly disease and spread it to the unvaccinated child.

There is absolutely NO proof that vaccinations cause Autism.

Kids having behavioral problems etc. is more likely due to lack of efficient parenting or the crappy food and preservatives we feed ourselves not a vaccination.

My son just got his MMR and he is 12 months. There is alot of debate as to if shots cause autism. When making my decision, I thought about how horrible I would feel if I didn't get the shot for my son and he got really sick or even died. I can live with myself if he got autism because of shots but not if he died because I didn't get him the shot. Good luck deciding

Hi - Since you are feeling anxious about the shot - please tell your pediatrician you want to wait until your child is 2 or even three before you want the MMR. If I could do the shots over, that is what I would have done. Good Luck!

I waited until my kids were about six years old and going to elementary school before giving them the MMR. They were not in daycare, but did attend a home preschool. The pediatrician I had at the time supported this decision. While Measles, Mumps and Rubella can cause long term damage or death, those outcomes are very, very rare.

There is a recent book out, Evidence of Harm, that explores the Autism/MMR vaccine connection in a relatively unbiased way. It is interesting to note that many of the studies that determine there is absolutely no link between the two are funded by the drug companies or groups that are involved in some way (politically/financially) with the drug companies.

Immunizations are a real flashpoint for both pro and con believers. My advice is to read widely, talk with your pediatrician, get the opinions of others, then make your own personal decision that you can live with based on what you know.
