I am a 38 year old mom and have history of fibroids years ago had myomectomy and had 6 removed in 2005 and in 2010 when I was pregnant with my second child found out I had another one. The last few months been having pelvic pain and abdominal pain

I don't really recall the gastro problems but my periods were very bad. I wound up having a hysterectomy in my early 40s. That surgery was a godsend in my book.

I do recall my abdomen being distended a lot and after the surgery it went down to a normal look. My daughter said that I didn't look 5 months pregnant any more.

They only seem to get worse with age. So do what you must for your health.

Might be related, might not be. What exactly are the gastro problems? Is it blood in stool or upset or constipation? IN any case, it seems like you need a consult with a gastroenterologist. Especially if you see blood. That is something to check out ASAP.

I had both the fibroids and the gastro problems I had uterine "material" outside of my uterus so it created fibrous bands connecting my uterus to my intestines. It was terribly painful. I had to have laproscopic surgery to have the bands cut and then I had uterine ablation. Anyway, they essentially burned the inside of my uterus. Once done you can no longer have kids. But, the only thing I regret is that I waited so long to do it!!! It has brought tremendous relief. I no longer have periods at all and my gastro issues (there were more to them than the bands) are far ore settled than they were. Please talk to your OB and your PCP. The Ablation was in/out one day of recovery and soooo worth it! You can PM me if you have more questions.

If your fibroids are big enough, they can definitely impact the space that your bowels have. Constricted bowels can mean slower digestion and pain. Out of whack hormones can cause diarrhea.

I don't have advice on this apart from suggesting you see your PCP doctor as soon as possible. They'll be able to do an initial exam and refer you the specialist they think might fit the problem first... maybe they'll think it's not related to fibroids and that it's solely something for a Gastroenterologist. Maybe it's something else for a different specialist, like your OB/GYN. But your PCP is the doctor at the top of your pyramid of specialists and will be able to direct you best. Your PCP is the ringmaster, the director of the show.

It's better than guessing, right?
