Name Ideas for Our New Puppy

Hi! We should be picking up our new puppy anyday now! He's a very furry, and destined to be big, shepherd/chow mix. All our pets so far have had names that fit them, or were special to us. But we're at a loss for this one! All we're really sure on is that we don't want a name like "Fluffy!" I'd like something dealing with winter, the holiday season, eskimo-ish or from our family history - french, polish ,welsh, hawaiian. I know this sounds goofy, but we'd like 2 syllables if possible. Any ideas? Thanks a ton!

What can I do next?

I think Teddy (short for Theodore...one of the Chipmunks...I loved their Christmas album when I was little) would be cute. Plus, Teddy would fit him because he's furry! An old boyfriend of mine had 2 shepherd/chows and they were Omar and Roscoe...they were both great dogs...good luck naming your new bundle of furry joy!

We had Margeret Beaulieu (named afer a wine), called Maggie, English Cocker lived to 13

Franklin Bourdeaux (another wine), called Frankie, American Cocker, lived to 13

Fluff de la Fluff ( daughter named him at 5 yrs old), American Cocker, almost 11. Called Fluff Puff, Fluffy Puffy, etc...his coat is buff and very fluffy. He just eats, sleeps and poops now.

CoCo (named for her beautiful chocolate color and brown accented eyes), called CoCo Loco sometimes. English Cocker, 6 yrs old. still going strong and lives for her tennis balls

Giovanni Rose (daughter named HIM), toy poodle, loves life 4, yrs old. Called G, G-boy and when we really need him to come back we'll call him Giovanni Rose. LOL, she knew he was a boy when she selected Rose.

Enjoy your pup..... HUGE committment but so worth the furry babies we have and have enjoyed having in out home.

How about Bernard? He's the super cool elf in The Santa Clause movies that my family loves to watch this time of year! =0)

Of course you also have all Santa's reindeer names: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Donner, Comet, Cupid, Blitzen. I like Blitzen for a big ol' fluffy dog. =0)

There's also Kringle!

We named our cat Sparkles because we got her 4th of July. I named the Dalmatian Cotton because he felt like cotton and still does. ;()) You may not have a name for him till you bring him home and that is okay because then his name could fit for his personality or something else.

we just went through this last Jan. after we adopted our shelter pup.
it was hard!

Here is a list we had:

Logan
Cody
Murphy
Denis

We went with Murphy...which fits as we later realized that he is part Kelpie which is a breed named after a Celtic mythological creature.

I posted a similar question in October. You can probably look back at my profile and find the question and the answers I received. I had also had dogs with names with meaning and was totally stumped as to naming our new puppy, a Miniature Poodle. We ended up with "Remy," a French man's name with absolutely no meaning at all! We liked it, it was short and sweet and seems to fit him. I looked online (there are many dog naming websites and list names by theme), at dog naming books and even at people naming books, which is actually where I found "Remy." One of our recently deceased dogs, a terrier, was named "Loki" for the Norse god of mischief. It fit him perfectly and would be a good name for a bigger dog. Of course, there are Thor and Odin, other Norse gods associated with power. There are some good Hawaiian names out there and you can probably find them online. I seem to recall a Hawaiian king who was very important historically who had a good, strong name. I remember liking some of the Hawaiian names I came across in my search. Good luck and post an update when you decide! I think it helps to see the puppy too. Have a list of names, but don't make a final decision until you bring him home. You can even give it a day or two to see how his personality develops. Our "Remy" was "puppy" for about the first 5 days. Have fun!
