Hi all,

I just tried "googling" for a taller step stool and was overwhelmed with what I found and still didn't find something suitable. I read the reviews on a few and it took a little while to find someone to say "not a good choice for toddlers." Soooo, I thought I'd just ask you all what you would suggest.

Our 3 y.o. is on the short side (just barely 3 feet). Both of our bathroom vanities are actually KITCHEN cabinets (don't know what the idiot was thinking when he built the place...probably thinking he would save some money?). So anyway, our daughter cannot reach the sink to wash her hands and with recent potty training it's becoming an ordeal. We've had to let her wipe her hands with a wipe and then use kid safe sanitizer. I'd much prefer she learned to wash her hands the proper way and INDEPENDENTLY!

We currently have a 9 inch tall step stool and she still can't reach. I think we need at least a 14 inch or more stool that is light weight, easy for her to move around doesn't take up too much space. Please let me know what you would suggest that would be safe for her to us by herself. Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you! I will look into all of these very soon. We have two of the blue and white plastic stools from Ikea. I will have to see how they stack tomorrow. We may have to use one stool for the potty and one stool for the sink.

Why does it have to be so difficult?!?! Poor little critters. They just want to do what big people do and NOTHING is easy. :)

WE ENDED UP BUYING A TWO STEP STOOL FROM WALMART.COM. IT IS A GUIDECRAFT WITH STORAGE UNDER THE TALL STEP AND COST AROUND $50. LOVE IT!

Ikea has two non-slip rubber step stools, one short and one tall, we have both and my three year old son uses the tall one to reach our bathroom and kitchen sink. It is about 13 inches tall and I have found it to be very safe for him, it has never fallen over nor has he slipped. It was only $8. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80159519

How about using just a regular step stool that us adults use to reach high places? You know, the ones that colapse.

I think I have the same Rubbermaid step stool that Catherine C. mentioned. The kids and I use it all the time. It's very lightweight, so the kids can carry it anywhere. It's great for the sink, but it's too high for the kids to use for the potty. The best step stool we have found for the bathroom has been a Safety 1st Nature Next stool that we got at Babies R Us. I've seen them at Target too.

Also, the white and blue stools from Ikea are stackable. Your daughter could use one for the toilet, and she could stack as many as it takes for her to reach the sink. They don't take up too much floor space. Good luck to you.

I bought a Rubbermaid step stool at Target that has worked great for years. Now that my youngest has outgrown it, I use it to reach the top shelf in the kitchen. ;)

I feel your pain!!!

I do home daycare and we put in a vessel sink in the lower level bath..where my daycare area is! Kids need to be up high so they don't "hang" on the glass bowl when washing hands, etc.

I have this one. Its called an "EZ FOLDZ" its 12 inches tall..and really any taller and my kids would have a hard time getting on and off of it. I have never brought it up to the kitchen?? I should try that. I could use a better system up there, but mostly I make them wash in the bathroom before coming up to the table.

I have one just like it that is a smaller overall size (but still too tall for potty use...great for handwashing in my other bathroom). The lovely thing is they fold up under a sink or next to a toilet in my case, for easy storage.

I have a black one in both the 12 inch tall one and the 9 inch tall one.

I paid about $30 for the 12 inch tall at Bed Bath and Beyond (online only) and $15 for the 9 inch..can't remember where I got that one, but it is more readily available. I love the big one as it has a large top surface as well. We use it all around the house on the weekends...it can support up to 300 pounds. My in laws got one for a step stool for Hubbys elderly Gramma to get up into my Father in Laws pick up truck. All kinds of uses..but I got mine mainly for daycare handwashing uses!

Hope it helps! I love these things and wish I had found them years ago!
