Need Hairdresser in Herndon/Reston Who Is Good with Foil Highlights & Lowlights

Hi - I moved here about a year & a half ago from North Carolina, where I had recently graduated Cosmetology school. Although I'm trained in cutting & coloring, it is difficult to do it TO yourself - especially coloring with foils on your entire head & cutting evenly in the back. So, I went to 2 different salons & hairdressers on different occasions when we first moved here. BOTH did NOT do what I asked, and I was not happy with either experience. So, for over a year, I've been doing my hair myself and have been happier with it than when I went to those 2 places. But - the time has come that I REALLY need to have someone else do it, so I can get my entire head done with the highlights & lowlights (I've only been doing the top half & then just spot coloring the underneath portion - it's just too difficult to foil it all myself). Does anyone know of a good stylist in the Herndon/Reston area who is good with foiling? I would be bringing my own color - they would just have to apply it. I also need a good haircut to even up all the layers & take some weight out of the top. I saw on another thread that a few people recommended Salon Nordine. When I went to their site, it was quite pricey though - $70 and up for a haircut & $140 for 2 color foils. Is this pretty typical for the pricing in this area? (It's about 1/2 that in North Carolina) I just don't want to spend a ton of money & then not be happy with it again. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Dear E.,
my response would be simliar to one already sent. It's a school, the Graham Webb Academy in Alrington, although ti may be a far drive for you. Although it might be a fun time away from the kids too. It does take longer b/c they have instructors check your hair before you leave to make sure its perfect. I have gotten color done there and my hubby has gotten highlights and lowlights and they came out very well. We've also both gotten haircuts there. And the students working on hair are not new students either. The website is http://www.grahamwebbacademyonline.com/gw-client.html
Full highlights %55, so yeah their prices are cheaper etc.
good luck
pammy

Try Maude's in Herndon. It is a apprenticeship program which allows them to charge a little less. Check out there website: Maudehair.com Try Kristin. It is a cool funky little shop in downtown Herndon. I think it might be right up your alley. You might even consider getting an apprenticeship there down the road when your ready to get back into work.

Hey E., You might like and appreciate going to Paul Mitchell School Salon in Tyson's Corner right next to Bloomingdale. Great prices, friendly service and lots of experts around to make sure you are getting what you want. Only down side, it does take time (more than in a regular salon so prepare for it). For faster service with more experience ask for a Phase 2 person. I've done it all there: highlights, low lights, cut, roots, and bring my daughter there too. Good luck! B.

This post is for C.K. who posted on this question last year. C.K.: Do you know where Michelle went? I moved out of the area and when I came back for a visit she had left Jouvence but they wouldn't tell me where. I can't remember her last name so I haven't been able to track her down. I know that she was interested in starting her own salon but never heard what happened. If you know anything I would love to find her again. She gave awesome cuts! Thanks!

I like Salon Nordine and they are pricy, but I think typical for a nice salon (i.e., not Hair Cuttery).

There is a new salon in Brambleton (Ashburn) called Hairloom. http://www.hairloomstudio.com/ServicesProducts.html

They actually have midlevel prices (haircut is $45 amd full foils are $85 and up). I don't think they are as good as Salon Nordine, but they are far superior to other strip mall establishments.

Hi E.,
I can HIGHLY recommend Maria Rochon. She used to work at Bubbles and now has a wonderful salon out of her house. My entire neighborhood goes to her. I have sent new clients to her and they have all loved her. She is in Manassas in a big beautiful house in a newer sub-division. I'm not sure if that is too far of a drive for you? I am sure she wouldn't mind you bringing your color. She is VERY good and VERY busy. I take my kids to her also. If you are interested please contact me and I will give you her contact information. I think she is worth the drive.

I go to Stephanie at Salon Nordine in Reston, and she is fabulous with color. I have been seeing her for years and have always been pleased with the results. She is also amazing with scissors too - I have very thick hair and she always does a great job recommending appropriate styles and taking the weight out of it. I highly recommend her if you're willing to spend the $$.

I haven't shopped around much (I went to Stephanie on a referral from a friend) so I can't tell you how the pricing compares though I have heard of others spending about the same for a good colorist/stylist in this area.
