You can try Freecycle.org. I have posted several things there that I no longer want or need for people to pickup. You can also post requests, so if anyone has something you need they can contact you.

check your local paper-- there is usually a bargain section. Keep trying craigslist! I have had a lot of luck with it--

OK, I tried to answer this once, I hope I don't forget anything this time.......

I don't live anywhere near you, but wanted to suggest trying yard sales, rummage sales, thrift/consignment stores, and ebay also. You never know....

I commend you for making a wise decision to cut your spending. Better to go awhile without furniture than to run out of money or ruin your credit rating.

Other ideas--if you find a bed for cheap, it could be used as a couch. The Big Lots near us sometimes puts futons on sale for around $150 (don't know if that is too much). Walmart, and/or Kmart and/or Target have those chairs that fold out into a single bed, basically they are cushions attached to each other that can stack (to sit) or spread out (to sleep). They aren't the greatest chairs, but might get you by. They usually run $40 or less (watch for sales). Your kids can use them if their friends sleep over.

If you live near a college, try to "trash-pick" (for lack of a better term) in that area around the end of semester or quarter. Sometimes students don't realize the value of what they have, or it is too expensive to ship, or their parents' car is full or.....kind of stupid on their part, but could be good for you!

Could you and/or your husband make any furniture? The reason I ask is because my DH made bookcases, a picnic table, and a toddler bed, and he had no training.

Re the washer/dryer--could you pay a neighbor to use theirs, for less than the laundromat? or offer to do something for the neighbor (mow lawn, bake bread, watch kids etc) iin return for use of washer/dryer. And remember how cheaply the sun dries clothes! ;-)

Good luck to you, I hope that helps a bit!

keep trying craigslist. Also search online for local outreach programs or places that can help you with furniture. Don't know where Kemp is, but there's gotta be a Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc that can help you. Go in there and ask at the desk "I see you have a dresser for sale for $200. Do you have paperwork I can fill out to get it cheaper? We're really struggling right now."
