My home is only 10 yrs old, but divorced and haven't had help to upkeep for 3 years. I am looking for someone to be very fair and honest with a quote(s) for all sorts of jobs...helping me to change light bulbs on sconces outside my house, fix leaking toilets, shower leak in wall, possibly installing new carpet and/or hardwood floors, to even maybe an addition to my bedroom with maybe a deck above it for upstairs. Also close a loft type gameroom off from open concept living room downstairs. (You can hear a pin drop from one corner of house to other end of house on the upstairs level...no privacy, plus bad for cooling and heating) Paint and or texture through out house. (Also having pool equipment problems, but that might be something a different person/company needs to handle and ASAP because I need to get equipment running before pipes could freeze in colder weather.)I haven't decided if I should have part time help in evenings and weekends over longer period of time, or someone come in and do it all at once...guess it depends on quotes. If it's an individual, I would need references and contract type thing, similar to a company doing it. (If times werent so tough it might have been cheaper to just buy a new house, but I guess I would still have to have some of that work done to sell it and don't think the market would help make any profit) Ok, and if all that isn't enough...My car is having problems...something about a radiator hose leak and whatever is "recommended" for a 100,000 mile check up, but only if necessary, not what the dealer wants to charge for.

Carpets and floors are something you can get for cheap IF you want to go to a carpet warehouse down in Dallas and take what they've got in stock. I did that and it was a little more than half the cost of what Empire would've charged me. I went to Castillo's down off Harry Hines.

You might want to try your local fire department. Quite a few of the firefighters by me in Fort Worth do odd jobs on the side when they are off duty and they can be very reasonable. They can also put up and take down outside Holiday lights. I like to try and use them as much as I can, since they do so much anyway.
You didn't say where you live, but my husband of 44 years is an electrician handyman that does everything and has more clients than he can list. They love him and he is honest and reasonable. He put our wood floor down for me and my daughter, add two rooms onto her house, put in new cabinets, counter tops, etc. Built a front porch deck and roof on her house, put our italian botocino pearl backsplash up and he is such a perfectionist-it all looks wonderful. He just did wiring for a friend and put lights in their trees, etc. He also repairs small appliances, etc. He is the head kitchen tech for all 37 Grand Prairie schools and is retiring in Jan. 2009. He will love extra jobs from now on and his clients have our number.

I take my care to Total Car Care in North Richland Hills. He has always been fair.. Toyota told me I needed breaks 2 years ago and I just changed them.
