They have the puzzles that look the shoes and the kids tie (Wal mart), plus lots of books. My 4 yr is just intrested in the litte stores, like the bunny one from the movie, Big Daddy. There are tons of websites that I found by google. Good Luck.

There's an old addage that goes something like this "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink"......Show him a couple of times then leave it alone. If you weare shoes that tie....then let him watch you tie yours.....a lot! Then every so often show him on his. He will get it when he is ready! Don't grow him up too fast! You will understand that later in life! I turned around and my baby is 18!

I'm not there yet both my kids are still using velcro. I think what I'm going to do is find a song and just sing it while I do it. Not in an instructional way, in a fun way. After a while it will seem so fun i think they will be super motivated and excited about learning themselves which I guessing is half the battle. And will really pay attention when I do it. And will eventually get it. I hope...

We have four boys, the youngest is a set of almost four yr old twins! We have a book that is buttoning, tieing, zipping, etc... I just gave it to the twins last month. They play with it and know how to zip and sometimes button. My husband taught them the bunny story for tieing but they get mad when tieing. Our oldest (now 12) received the book as a gift and didn't learn to tie until he was 5, our second son finally got it at almost 6. So everyone is different, just don't get mad or show frustration when teaching. You could find a book with these things or use a pair of his shoes to "practice" on. Just make it fun. Good Luck!

My son is 6, and has been learning to tie his shoes for over a year now. He's just not interested, my daughter learned at 5. I've heard from several mothers with boys, that they just don't have the desire like girls do. Good Luck!!!

I used a tie from a jacket or a robe and taught my son how to tie it around his waist. Once he could tie a bow, we moved on to his shoes. My oldest son is 10 now, and he has two friends that still do not know how to tie their own shoes! Good for you teaching your son at age 4!
