Need Something to Replace My Hair!

My daughter is 1 and loves my hair. She will only fall asleep if she has her hand in my hair. She likes to "knead" it. I dont' know any other way to explain it. My hair is short and she slips her tiny hand in the back of my hair and kneads it till she falls asleep. She has a blankie and she's a thumb sucker, so I don't know why she thinks she has to play with my hair too! I keep hoping the child will grow some hair so she can play with her own hair! LOL! I don't mind rocking her to sleep, but it would be nice if someone else could do it for a change. I has to be MY hair that she plays with. Silly baby! Her daddy can rock and rock and rock her and she will NOT fall asleep. The minute I pick her up and her hand finds my hair, she's out like a light. She's done it practically since birth. I kept hoping she's outgrow it on her own, but no such luck. Any advice as to what I can try to do?

What can I do next?

Put your hair in a ponytail if it can fit, or just remove her hand and put it on something else, like on a stuffed bear or something. My son does the same thing, and he is almost 3. She may like a silky thin blanket, when I was little, my mom gave me a cut square of a silky slip. She really just likes the methodical action, so giving her something else she can do that on may help.

I had to laugh at your post, my son always massaged my earlobe (till we has about 3 or 4). One year I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and his answer was: "An ear that is as soft as yours for when you are not around".

I think it will be real tough to find a replacement. Maybe a piece of sheep skin, a very soft stuffed animal, her earlobe?

My son does the same thing. But now that he has a ton of hair of his own, he's fine with playing with his.

The only thing I could maybe suggest is when you get your hair cut next time, maybe try and figure out a way to attach it to a stuffy or doll maybe?

That is funny, and you will miss it when it quits! I'd say shop for a dolly that has similar hair to yours and let her feel it in the store till you find one she responds to. Take it home and when she puts her hand in your hair tell her its dollys turn... and try to transition her.
Very cute story Shaun ;)

Why not a wig or a fall.

I don't know why people focus on something they like, even when it makes no sense to any one else. The first girl I had a crush on had blue eyes and long hair. Every girl I dated had long hair and the one I married asked me what I wanted her to do. I replied that I wanted her to grow and keep her hair long. We've been married for 37 years now and I still love her pretty blue eyes and long shimmering hair.

Good luck to you and yours.

Oh that is too cute. My son wouldn't fall asleep unless he had MY hand on his chest & his hand on my face. I miss those days to be honest. Even though at the time it was kinda a pain ahha
