NFL Moms - If You Could Have One Person Perform at the Superbowl...

...who would it be at half time? My vote would be Bruce Springstein, Brooks & Dunn, Bon Jovi or Gretchen Wilson. I wouldn't mind seeing Aerosmith again. I love Madonna but I thought her show was really boring.

I just saw they announced that Bruno Mars will be performing at the half time show. I guess that's ok. He's a great singer but I don't know any of his songs (accept that one they play all the time).

Anyway - GO TEXANS!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just decided I would love to see Pitbull. He would make a great half time show.

Foo Fighters or Red Hot Chili Peppers, maybe Soundgarden. As long as it's not country music, I'm good.

Justin Timberlake . . . classic and new stuff. And it would be fun if they'd work in 'N Sync like they did at the VMAs.

I also like the Bon Jovi idea.

PLEASE NO Miley Cyrus or Robin Thicke. :P

springsteen already did it, didn't he?
i only watch the SB for the ads and the halftime show!
for the most part i like acts that do music, not big productions. one of the best concerts i ever saw was the eagles. buncha guys standing on the front of the stage singing and playing their hearts out, without a lot of distraction.
but for the superbowl, i DO kinda like the hoopla!
i'd lick the screen if timberlake did his suit and tie routine!
the white stripes (i don't think they're together, though.)
mumford and son.
rage against the machine.
metallica
journey
carlos santana.
AC/DC
yeah, i'm old.

Bruce Springsteen can perform every year as far as I am concerned. LOVE him. I typically hate the halftime shows so having Bruce is a sure way to insure I don't.

Considering it is in NJ this year, I really think Bruce and Bon Jovi would have been the perfect pairing (not that Bruce needs to be paired with anyone).

GO BEARS!!!!

I LOVE Bruno Mars and his songs. He is not bad to look at either! I will be watching.

I would not watch at all if it was a country singer.

ETA: Maroon 5 or Pitbull would also be good. I love Bruno Mars!!

Not a big fan of Bruno Mars. I can take him or leave him. If the Saints aren't playing, he won't be reason enough for me to watch.

AC/DC would be GREAT!
Van Halen
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Dwight Yoakam
Brian Setzer
Jerry Lee Lewis

Bruno Mars is a really good performer, puts on an entertaining show. I am glad that they aren't just recirculating the same old performers. That would be super stale. No matter how well they "bring it", I wouldn't want to see the same performers every year or every other year, even if they were my faves.

Anything but country.
My past favorites were Prince and Green Day/U2.
I don't really like Bruno Mars' songs but he is a REALLY good singer so it will probably be a good show.

GO PATRIOTS!!!

And it seems a lot of these people being mentioned are "older" and won't draw in the bigger crowds...at least in my two cents.

I agree with someone like Justin Timberlake or Katy Perry.

Bruno Mars is fun though - I'm excited for his performance - thought I do not watch Super Bowl for the commercials or half-time show...I watch it for the FOOTBALL!!

I'd give my husband's left nut to see the remaining survivors of Led Zeppelin hook up with Jason Bonham for one last show!!

Since that won't be happening....I bet Justin Timberlake would put on a great show.

Really, I think that a medley of relevant artists would be better than just one. I liked when MTV did the halftime show and it was like N'Sync, Christina Aguilerra or was it Brittany (?), Aerosmith, and some others all did like a group style performance. I think that was a success because it mixed a number of talents and reached many people thru the variety.

Or just go back to a drum corps/marching band. Who ever wins Nationals at the major drum corps/marching band finals gets to perform. Some of that stuff is AMAZING!!!!

As another poster mentioned, they would really need to be someone sort of over the top. So no one on my list would ever "work".

I would love to see Gary Alan or someone like that, who is mellow yet can really rock, too. He's a good performer and you're guaranteed for the show to be tasteful as well. But, as I said, that kind of performer is NEVER going to do a show like the Superbowl. Taste, class, and talent are not really the big 3 they are after.

----
I might be wrong (ALWAYS a possibility of that! lol), but I think part of the reason they go with older acts is because 1) if they are old, then you know they were big enough to have staying power... some of the younger groups could end up a flash in the pan, and seeing how big "tradition" is to the NFL, I would think they would avoid anything not 'proven'; and 2) Rule number 1 is always "Know your audience."

For example, in 2007, the average age of the spectator AT the game that year, was about 43.

The average amount of money spent PER spectator PER diem (that traveled in for the game, which most do every year---that particular year, approx 71,000 out of 74,500 traveled to south Florida specifically for the game) was $668 and stayed an average of 5 nights.

From http://media.miamiherald.com/smedia/2007/05/23/22/2007_SB...

"Demographically, 71.5% of visitors were male and the average age was 43.4. 42.9% were college educated and 31.9% completed graduate school. Occupationally, 20% classified their career choice as “professional”, 15.9% were “executives”, 10.9% “sales” and 7.8% in “upper management”. The average household income reported by visitors was
$222,318."

So... the paying audience isn't going to be interested in seeing some of the younger more cutting edge acts (or even know who some of them are). They want what they know and like, which is usually a blast from the past (which means the act has been around and performing for a minimum of about 20 years).
THAT is why you get acts like Springsteen, Prince, U2, The Eagles, Madonna, etc. Beyonce last year was sort of an outlier.

KISS would fit the model. But, it wouldn't be who I would desire to see. Like I said, who I would like wouldn't ever fit the bill of what they are looking for.
