Not a Sane Question

We don't have cable or satellite anymore, just Roku instant streaming from Netflix. My favorite treat in life is watching the news at night before bed from the instant streaming news channel. Sunday night I was finally settling in to watch news and Meet the Press with my salad when the phone rang. My 5 year old "paused" the news with the Roku remote control. I quickly wrapped up the call, she did not leave the room. I said, "OK, Start it" and the remote control was gone. We searched everywhere. 5 days later. Still gone. We have stripped the whole house numerous times. Poltergeist. My question is...WHERE THE HELLL IS ITTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!?!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

OK, you guys are making me feel better at least. I'm laughing with your suggestions, but on the phone anyone else suggesting places is getting the "OF COURSE I LOOKED THERE!!!" response. :) I'll flip the couch and keep you all posted...thanks for sympathy!

***FOUND IT. The couch did indeed eat it. It went beyond the normal cushion cracks to a secret compartment under the arm which I didn't know existed. Thanks for advice to delve deeper into couch. And to all others too, I looked everywhere suggested!

I was washing dishes one time and filled the sink, added soap, etc...did some dishes and then went on to bed. The next day got up, off to school, all sorts of stuff going on in the evening, came time to do dishes...no dish soap. It was no where to be found, we even looked in the closet that housed the heating and air conditioning unit. I finally found it inside the fridge...who knows what I was thinking when I put it in there.

I agree with Tracy, you wont find it until you stop looking.
I trust that it's probably in a very obvious place, so obvious in fact, that's why you can't see it.

My DD likes to hide things in the subwoofer - the hole is just big enough for a remote and a small hand, lol!!

You hung the remote up on the phone charger. Or it's in the fridge.

Your best bet: bribe your 5 year old with candy and tell them to find it! :)

Extremely strange - but i offer it because it has happened at my house - did you check the refrigerator?

Since you were eating . . . . also pull the couch (if it is)away from the wall. I have found it lodged there before and I swear I don't know how it got there.

:)

Oh I hate that. I lose my debit card all the time (so absent minded mommy) and I looked high and low one time for it - just could not locate it anywhere. I get a new one - cancel the old one - and go on with life. A couple months later my older son walks over and says "here" and gives me the debit card! I was like "where did you find that" - and he said "under the dvd player" - the baby must have been trying to "play" it and shoved it underneath.

So I second the people who recommend checking where your kiddos play since it's way too big to shove under the dvd player...lol

hahhhaaa You guys crack me up. I hide things from myself in the fridge too. Where's the peanut butter? Ummm the freezer. Why? Because I am an absent minded zombie.
I also am in the habit of putting things up high, because of the kids, so, if I were you, I'd also check on top of the fridge! And any other high surfaces.

My best advice is buy a universal remote. In my experience, when somethings lost, it wont turn back up until I stop looking for it.

Flip the couch over and look inside the lining. My step daughter lost her phone in my moms couch this way.

I agree--flip that couch over. For 5 days we had lost our TV remote. I had stuck my hands in the crevices several times, but never found it. One day I was vacuuming behind the couch and I thought, what the heck...couldn't hurt to flip this thing up and check. Sure enough, as soon as I flipped it, the remote dropped out. But, I messed up my back in the process, so maybe wait til your hubby comes home & flip it together.

As soon as you buy a new one the old one will be found. hahaha.

But seriously, we found my son's cell phone (6 months later) deep in the crevices of the couch.

When the kids were preschoolers I came home from grocery shopping in the pouring rain. I dropped my keys on the mat right inside the door and then my husband and I proceeded to get the groceries in the house, unpack them, make dinner, etc. The next morning I could not find my keys - looked high and low. I ended up taking my husband's copy of my car key off his ring, had to make a copy of the house key, etc. Months went by - my husband kept saying "I don't understand how you just lost your keys - how could that happen..." He must have said that 50 times over the months. One day while playing with the youngest one I opened the compartment of the little push car (that had been moved in from outside and was temporarily in the living room, then went to the basement) and there were my keys! My 4 yr old had used them to "start the car" and then placed them in the compartmenet. I also found my leather flip flops after months in the play "dryer"... My suggestion - look in all the places your kids play - dress up clothes, etc.

I know someone who went out to dinner and when she thought she was grabbing her cell phone she was actually putting the TV remote in her bag. The babysitter couldn't find it and when my friend attempted to call the babysitter to check in she pulled the TV remote out of her bag!!!!

(Did you look in your freezer - stranger things have happened!)

It has to be wherever you were on the phone or in a coat pocket. I am good for talking on the phone and putting away dishes and stuff ends up in a cupboard. Don't worry, it will turn up. What was your little one doing at the time?

Look and see if you have a small hole under any cushins we had a very small one in our couch and some how the remote found it's way down there. Also in the crease at the back of your couch or chair remotes love to end up there too.

I agree with the flip the couch suggestions. Flip and shake. Failing that, tell your family whomever finds the remote gets (fill in the blank with something wonderful). That should start a whirlwind of searching.

We have the same problem here! We seriously have a few major things that have completely just vanished! I had my mom bring in the baby video monitor from outside (this was months ago), shortly after I put the baby to bed and said hey where is that monitor ..she said she sat it right there on the table , which i where i thought she put it also.. well, we literally emptied the garbage and everything and still months later... gone! Same with an ear thermomether and an extra video camera and a couple other things... I always say that its another victim of the ghosts black hole of this house! ugh!

I went to the grocery store the other day and from the time of putting my little DD in the grocery cart to getting to the deli counter, my grocery list/pad disappered. I searched the store, re-tracked my steps 3x, checked lost and found, nothing.

Did you check the bathroom? My boys are ALWAYS bringing things in there when they have to go, but then leave their "things" behind when they go.

Check the food pantry. I have found some crazy things in there......including my 5 year old's blankie.

Good luck!

What comes to my mind is possibly when you left the room, 5 year old accidentally broke the remote (maybe something simple as the batteries fell out), she freaked and hid the remote so she wouldn't get in trouble. I would definitely check the cushions deep in the couch, the subwoofer (we have found all sorts of treasures in ours!) and of course the toy box. I would gently ask her if she thought it was broken and assure her you will not be mad if that is what happened. Or it might just be in a crazy place like the freezer! I hope you find it soon!
