Now What?! Any Ideas for a SAHM?

My fiancee and I are expecting our second daughter in 3 months. We just bought a house right before i found out I was pregnant, and things have been great, until now. I'm a SAHM, and he works as a poker dealer. He's always made great money, but now that his place is starting to shut down, we're barely makin enough to pay the bills and buy food. (Of course, we still "make too much money" for government assistance. They wont even give me pregnancy medicaid!). Anyway, he is looking for other jobs and has applied to other places and hopefully something will open up, but in the meantime, I'm trying to think of ways i can make some money! I can sew pretty good, and i guess u can say im somewhat of a crafty person, so i was thinking of maybe making some things to sell.. whether it be at flea markets, Etsy, hyenacart, etc. Does anyone have any ideas for me?! Or perhaps know if any kind of other work i can do from home or online? I just don't think someone is gonna hire me being almost 7 months preggo. Thanks ladies!

*Edit/Update* ... if i go the 'sell my stuff' route, what would YOU buy handmade online? Please, give me ideas of stuff to make! Whether it be for home, baby, etc.

What can I do next?

I know a girl who just had a baby a few months back and she is working online rating Google searches. I had never heard of it, and I don't know how you get started. But she said she just had to take a test of some sort and now she is working for $15/hr, on her own schedule as much or as little as wants.

I like the American Girl clothes idea. That stuff is crazy expensive, so I would think homemade stuff would be cheaper and since they are dolls, you could start with a minimal amount of fabric & other start-up expenses until you see how well it is going to work out.

You can always look for people who need babysitters for their kids through the week. My SIL does this for a few kids every week and makes $25 a kid per day.

Etsy has many tutorials and suggestions for new sellers on their website. You might try making items for American Girl dolls. I know folks spend a fortune on those clothes and accessories, especially when there are matching human sized dresses and accessories sold along with the doll items.

Watching other children--even being an "in a pinch" sitter--the tax-free income is awesome, you don't have to put any money out up front, and can set your own hours.

Also, if you have things you don't use, sell them and put the cash in the bank. One trick my sister taught me is that (if you shop Target) you can get 5 percent off of every purchase at Target just by taking in a blank check for them to run to hook your checking acct to a target debit card. It's not a credit card, and comes right from your bank acct, but the 5 percent sure helps.

My sister worked for chacha.com for awhile...answering people's questions online for a paycheck, and she did pretty well.

If you're crafty and can sew, you can sell your stuff, like you said, online or on ebay. You can also start a blog and sell your stuff on a blog. Make sure you have paypal. Just let your family and friends know what you're doing. Post pictures on your blog, facebook and other online places. I think you'll do great!! Congratulations on your little one!!

You could try hosting Scentsy, Pampered Chef etc.. type parties. Or, start selling old clothes/shoes to places like Plato's Closet, Clothes Mentor etc... Start doing the coupon craze. Any of those?

My thought: Toddler bed sets. You can buy toddler (crib) sized matress fitted sheets, but no pillow, no pillow case, no flat sheet to match! I had to make my own and I am NOT very crafty. Looks terrible. If i would have found some reasonably priced I would have bought a set or two. (Granted, I don't shop etsys. I shop local consignment stores most of the time).

I made a few crayon rolls and although mine weren't as cute as this one: http://www.skiptomylou.org/2007/04/25/on-a-roll/ my friends did say "This is so cute! You could sell these on craigslist!

If you are a good seamstress, you might try to make clothes for American Girl dolls and sell on ebay. My daughter loves her AG doll, but I won't pay $35 for it to have an outfit! Good luck!
