Hi M.,
I basically pull it up over one breast and let it drape over the other one. Often it sorta bunches over his face and blocks some of his view, but he doesn't seem to mind.
good luck
Hi ladies,
I have a two year old that I nursed for about a year. I always wore a nursing shirt. Sounds silly, but I could never get the hang of wearing a regular shirt - I would try to pull it up but couldn't get the bulge of material out of the way of the baby's face....and I didn't really want to hold it with my hand the whole time. So I bought a few nursing shirts and always wore those. But the same few shirts get old after awhile and it gets pricey to buy a ton of new ones. I am currently pregnant again and would like to wear my normal shirts/sweaters if possible. I hear that nursing camis/tanks underneath are great. As for the shirt though, just wondering how others handle this? Do you pull up your shirt and just hold the slack? Do you tie it back somehow? Do you scrunch it up and put it somewhere? Sounds stupid I know - I just can't wrap my head around the logistics of it all!! thank you!
Thanks everyone for all your replies - you gave me some really good tips. I will try out the tank tops/layers and the other suggestions. I appreciate you sharing all your experiences and tricks. :)

I always just hiked it up and held it under my arm while I nursed, except when I was out of the house (didn't like trying to hide my belly rolls!). If I knew I would be out of the house and have to feed, I would just wear the nursing shirts...
You might be able to find some sweaters that unbutton or unzip a little
Isn't that funny, I never could get the hang of nursing shirts and always wore regular ones!
I find that loose, long shirts with material that isn't too thick or stiff work the best for nursing. I unhook my nursing bra, pull up the shirt on that side, and if need be, give the material a little tug so it is taught over the top of the breast. Then I latch on my daughter (or my son when I nursed him :D) and let the material fall naturally around. I don't hold the shirt at all while she's nursing. When we are out in public I'll pull more of the material down close to her mouth to cover more, but at home, I leave it pulled up high so I can see all of her.
hope that helps...
I wear a blush topless shirt under normal shirts (same benefit as the nursing tank or cami with the flabby belly), and then lift the shirt and tend to roll the shirt under, so that the slack doesn't hang in the baby's face. You can also get some that unbutton, but then you tend to need hooter hiders if in public.
.
I've always worn regular shirts to nurse -- I tried nursing shirts at the beginning with my first, but in all honesty, they're really just not designed for women with large breasts -- it never worked comfortably. I usually just pull up the shirt, smooth the excess over to the sides, and if we're in public or it's cold, pull it down a bit to cover my breast. It gets more interesting as they get older and start trying to play peek-a-boo with the shirt though and trying weird and different positions... nursing a toddler is an adventure :-) (I nursed my first 2 to 36 and 39 months respectively, and my third is 23 months and still going strong.)
I wear a regular light weight t-shirt (long sleeve now) and just hike it up. They're kind of fitted so they stay out of the way ok. I also often wear a cardigan or sweatshirt that opens down the front. I use that to cover my sides/back/belly and anything else exposed by hiking my shirt up. :) I found the tanks got in the way but I have had 2 messy nursers and have to tuck a cloth diaper into the bottom of my bra or my bra ends up all wet from dripping milk! Fun times. You could try button down shirts too. I have done that some with a tank under. It all depends on your boob size and body type. I have little boobs (even now) and I'm pretty small in the rib cage so that's what works for me.
I always wear a tank under my regular shirts. I didn't want to spend money on nursing shirts, and honestly think some of them are more of a hassle than what they're worth. I just lift up my regular shirt (although some I can pull down from the top), pull down my bra and tank, and nurse. If I'm in public, I always lift my shirt and hold it so I can quickly cover up if my easily distracted 13 m/o pulls off;-) But at home it stays up on it's own, without me holding it.
I buy regular tanks, not nursing ones (though I do have a couple). I live in them! I still wear a nursing bra, too, b/c the tanks don't offer enough support for me. The tank helps hide my flabby belly. ;p
Layer 2 tank tops - the bottom one has a built in shelf bra, the top is regular tank. Add a soft button-up shirt over it in the winter as needed. Lift the top tank UP and pull the bottom tank down just to reveal the boob to the baby. No one can ever see anything. Works awesome!!!
I have nursed for 5.5 years and counting :)
I wore a regular shirt with a Hanes ('wife beater' style) tank top under it. That way I could pull the shirt up, pull the tank down so the only thing out was the part of my boob that the baby needed. :) and my belly was still covered. Because Iwas one of THOSE moms who would rahter someone see my boob than my belly. LOL!
