OUCH!!... Just Smashed My Finger...

What do you do for blood blisters? Because I'm sure this is what is going to happen.

My son was pitching a tantrum and pulled on the tripod grate to the fireplace (why it's still out is beyond me, ask my fiance), so I went to grab it before it fell on him... and pinched my finger (just the skin on the palm side) between 2 parts. It's black and swollen and hot right now; I'm icing it. It hurts to type ;)

So when the blood blister does appear, what do I do? That freakin SMARTS!! Oooouch....

What can I do next?

Dont do anything to it.
If you feel you need to prick it and let some pressure out, I'd probably do that, but in my experience blood blisters always lie flat and dont need you to do anything.
If you do decide to prick it make sure you use a sterile needle.
OW! The whole pinching thing is horrible, I hate when that happens.

My daughter just got a bloo blister yesterday while playing outside. I had her ice it for a little, gave her kids Ibprofine, she took a bath, slept the night and in the morning it was gone. Now she seems to be a "super healer" and cuts seem to heal quickly so it may take a day or two to go away but it will go away.

I would NOT drain the blood blister. I have been told to let it take care of it self, it is not an open wound so do not expose it to infection by opening the blister. If it does not go away in a few days then maybe drain it, but it usually is just dry blood by that time and your body will take care of it so why interfere?

OOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!!! OUTCH!!!

I've not read your other responses...but I would use the ice for 20 minutes, then take a sterile needle and poke it to relieve the blood, then put a sterile bandage over it for 24 hours.

I agree with Grandma T. I would use a sterile needle and prick it to release the pain. Sorry, I know that hurts. :(

Oh, I know...you should call your ex's GF and ask her to help you 'fix it'...maybe with some DermaBond?

Hahahahahahaha! Sorry R.! I just had to...made me laugh at least :)

~If memory serves, you should ice it and leave it be. Do not puncture it, that can open it up to infection.

Hurts just to think about. I always put ice on blood blisters and leave them alone.

Be careful what comes out of your mouth, too! Your son will learn from you what he should say when he smashes his own finger. :^)

My grand daughter just had a blood blister on the end of her big toe. She stumbled outside and it pinched the skin on her toe between the driveway and her flip flop. We washed the dirt off, and kissed it.. The next day she was running around barefoot outside and scraped the top off and now its fine. I say leave it alone till tomorrow and then wash it off, and see if you can relieve the pressure with a sterile needle (if it needs)and cover with a band aid till it dries out.
