Hi, I am considering starting the P90X program. Has anyone done this? Your thoughts? I just wish it was not so expensive.
Thank you!

Hubby and I are doing it now. We started several months ago, but I got a horrible sinus infection and had to stop. Then life got crazy with the holidays and we just started back up.
We took our before pictures (I was four days postpartum) and then I wanted to have pictures every week so I could see how I was progressing. By week three I had lost 8 inches and 6 pounds. You could see my body changing and becoming leaner.
Yes, it's expensive, but if you can afford it and will stick with it, it's totally worth it!
I bought mine for half price on Craigslist and brand new. Check there.
It depends on your body type, really. I did it last year and only lost 6 lbs and although I felt stronger and had much more endurance, I didn't think it helped my body that much.
After I finished P90X (I stuck with the schedule and diet 100%), I tried Chalean Extreme (Chalene Johnson is a fantastic motivator!). THAT got me ripped! It was more intense weight-wise than P90X, had a much more do-able schedule (5 days a week instead of 6, and workouts were 30-60 mins long instead of 60-90 mins). My body looks better now than it did when I was in my 20s! It IS a L. light on cardio (as is P90X) so I combined it with running (30 mins) on the strength training days - those are fairly short workouts (30-40 mins). It boosted my metabolism to the extreme - I can now eat 1800-2000 cals a day and still lose a lb a week without even trying. I finished that program up in November and am now finishing Turbofire (which is another Beachbody program, similar to Insanity - high intensity intervals and cardio, also taught by Chalene Johnson). When I finish that, I'm combining it with another round of Chalean Extreme. The program was THAT good and I would recommend it over P90X for women.

LOVE IT - if you stick with it, it's so worth it. I finished the classic program and am now doing the lean program...I've never been in shape this good my entire life - even now after having 2 kids.
About 6 months after I had baby #2 I did Jillian Michael's 30-day shred for 60 days (I was also doing the Pilates for weight loss video during the same time)...I had good results but wasn't totally satisfied yet. That's when I started p90x...I don't see how anyone could do this program and NOT lose weight and get in shape. As the people mentioned below, it's a time commitment. But if you're expecting big results, you have to put in the time. I don't feel like doing anything at night after the kids are fed/baths/playtime/stories/bedtime. So I get up at 5 AM every day during the week and do my workout then. Some mornings it's hard to motivate myself out of bed, but once I just get up and do it, I feel amazing all day and I don't have to give up any time at night in order to work out. Get it!!
My husband and I did it last year. I highly recommend it but you have to stay disciplined and eat right for it to work. We actually purchased the program on Ebay for about $50. It was slightly used but all the DVD's/program info were in good condition. Good luck!!
My husband and I watched the infomercial one night while laying in bed-we were exhausted when it was over! Seriously, it seems like you need a lot of motivation to do this program. You're almost better off going to classes where at least you won't walk out in the middle of a tough set. If I'm by myself I'd probably stop if it got super challenging, no ones there to judge me, LOL!
I have always wanted to do it but haven't yet.
Someone at my gym who has twins and a singleton and was already in amazing shape started doing it and lost 10 pounds in three months. I couldn't believe how great it was for her, she looked so cut.
I have it and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! Yes, it's pricey, yest it's time consuming, YES it's worth it. It is an intense program, but one that truly does have results. You work at your own strength. I was nowhere near their strength & stability, but now on week #3, there is a huge difference! Starting on week #3, I've already dropped a few pounds, which is huge considering I've been stuck at the same weight for 4 months now, after unsuccessful tries with other programs. I definitely say it's worth the money. Yes, it's exensive, but it's nothing compared to what you put out monthly for a gym membership.
I highly recommend it...Gosh, sometimes I feel like I can be a spokesperson for the thing!
I have not done it, I just know it is very time consuming and very intense. Some workouts are an hour + a day.
I just bought the Ab workout separately, used over Amazon.com
It is a great workout. Intense. I have some trouble working that hard alone at home. We also use P90x Ab workout in the Karate school I train at. When I do it there, I always work harder. So, if you know you can be motivated at home, and are ready for a really intense workout, this seems to be the one.
It really works! My husband and I did it and we got into great shape. Before you spend the money, just know up-front that you have to commit to doing the 1-hour workout 6 days per week, and you HAVE TO be willing to either follow their diet plan or at the very least be willing to count all your calories and stay under your allotted daily amount. We went with the latter option. I have a couple iPhone apps for counting calories, so that really helped. I'm 8 months pregnant now, but as soon as I am physically able after delivering my son my husband and I intend to either resume P90X or start the Insanity program.
Good luck to you!
It works, but so do many others. Check them out for free @ your library
Love it! However, you have to be able to give at least 1 hour per day.
