A friend of mine had this problem. She got the zip pajamas with feet in them, cut the feet off, and put them on backwards so the child couldn't get to the zipper. Good luck!
My son is 22 months old and has gotten into the habit of unzipping or unsnapping his pajama sleepers at night. Then he usually releases one side of his diaper and ends up wet in the morning. Does anyone have any pajama suggestions that may work for us? We've tried the zip and snap sleepers, the two-piece snap pajamas and the separate shirt and bottom pajamas. Thanks!
Thank you to everyone who sent responses! They were all very helpful. However, we tried putting his footless one-piece pajamas on backwards last night and that seemed to work. He still had his diaper on this morning. Thanks again!

I heard one mom who cut off the feet of footed p.j.'s then put them on backwards on the child. Because the zipper is in the back they can't get out of it!
Maybe introduce potty training. He may not train for a while, but it sounds like he is showing some early skills.
My oldest son did that also.. I finally put his zip up pj's on backwards. I had to cut the feet off but it kept him in his pj's all night.
I tried to safety pin his zipper up first but the little bugger figured out how to get out of that quick and then I had to deal with the poor guy getting poked... I didnt do that again...
The backwards pj's worked best for me.
Good Luck!!!

My 2 year old daughter does the same thing and wakes up in the middle of the night yelling "I'm naked and all wet." We use DIAPER SAFETY PINS. You can pin zip up jammies shut at the top and problem solved. Use the diaper safety pins not regular saftey pins, so he can't hurt himself. You can find them in the baby section at walmart for about a dollar for four of them. They have a bigger and plastic head on them to prevent sticks or pokes from the pin. Good luck!
We had the same problem with our daughter at that age. We discovered that she was unable to get onesies unsnapped since the snaps were in the crotch area. We put her pajamas on over her onesies to make sure she was still warm enough at night. Hope this works for you!
When my oldest was still in diapers, she would also unzip her jammies and tug off her diaper in the middle of the night. I had to start dressing her in a "snug" onesie underneath her jammies! It's alot harder for their short little arms to reach the snaps! Hope this helps!
Buy one piece feety PJs and cut the feet off or buy them with out feet then put them on backwards and they cant reach the zipper to take them off.
Cut the feet off of the zipper pajamas and put them on backwards. works like a charm
S.,
My sons, used to do this same thing and I found out that they were to hot in the jams and diaper at night with all the covers so I went to lighter jams and that seemed to cure it.
we always used to cut the 'feet' off of a full sleeper, put it on backwards...so it zips up the back. ;)
I'm not sure if they still make the "plastic pants" that used to be used over cloth diapers. We used those over the diapers at night when our son, now almost 16, used to take off his diapers. It doesn't allow busy fingers as easy of access. The new pull-ups over the diaper might work as well.
We have a child with disabilities which I know is not your case but what we did for pajamas when he was taking them off and smearing poop around ( I know, I know that is completely another story). Anyways what we did was take a nice soft t-shirt and nice pajama bottoms and sewed them together. Then we cut the back of the shirt and put velcro on it so he couldn't get to it and take them off himself. Worked like a charm. Kept our messes to a miniumu!!
Put his pajamas on backwards, cut the feet off of the zip/blanket sleepers. Or you could duck tape his diapers. We had to do this with my daughter at nap time. We put one strip across both tabs of her diapers.
Not really about the PJ's, but the diaper situation. Duct tape. Not even joking. We put a little piece over the diaper tabs before bed, and never again did our daughter take the diaper off over night.
Hello
I have turned my childrens pjs backward so the zipper is in the back. I then cut the neck area that was in back (now the front) a little lower so they have a bit more neck space. Works really well.

Put his diaper on backwards. It'll be harder for him to get the sides undone that way. Good luck!
I have heard people suggest putting zip up sleepers on backwards. It seems worth a try.
As odd as this may sound, put them on backwards. My daughter is 33 months and I buy the footless kind that zip from snugglebye *sold at Kmart,Shopko, and some Costco stores*. If they can't reach the zipper they can't get them off! It's worked great for us.
My 22 mo old daughter (April 18th bday) does the same thing! I had to put her in the blanket sleeper pajamas and take a diaper pin and pin them on. The diaper pins are to hard for them to get off (I barely can sometimes!ha!). I got a pack of 10 at Wal-Mart. I seems to have done the trick and now when we put her pajamas on if I forget the pin she insists and finds the pin for me to put on! :)
hi S. i had the same problem with my boys when they were very little i found the only solution was to put mittens on them at night...you can buy pyjama sets with mittens attached and if he says no to wearing them then you must tell him stop and mummy will take them off ..see how it goes ...failing that try putting a pair of shorts or pants.. on under the bottoms that way he will get confused worked also for me
A safety pin across the zipper of a sleeper near the neck works well for us.
Try a onesie under his jammies. He may get the jammies off or unzipped, but he won't be able to get his diaper undone.
I would suggest getting some goodnight pull-ups just for at night, so there is no tab to pull apart.
My twin boys did that, too and it was so frustrating! We used Onesies, but they soon figured that out. We started using packing tape or duck tape. The problem ended. We just had to cut the tape in the morning. It was too wide and sticky for them to tear. After several weeks, they quit trying.
I am a mom of 5 - 15, 14, 10, & (twins) 7
My nephew does that too! His dad just put his pjs on backwards...that worked
Also- he has put a t-shirt on over the pjs so he can't get at the zipper or out of the pants.
Does a onsie still fit him? Can he get out of that too??
Put the diaper on backwards. Child can't undo it.
We used to buy the jip up PJ's and cut the feet out. Then you can put them on backwards and zip them up the back!
Good luck!

Maybe he's hot. My daughter doesn't like wearing those zip-up jammies because they're binding in the legs, and they're hot. Try a lighter pair of jammies, t-shirt material perhaps.
Hi! I'm not sure if you got any suggestions yet or not. I havent' read these for awhile. Anyway, my mother in law has a daycare at her house. She has had a few children do this and even paint with their own poop. She started putting the thick training underpants on top of their diapers and then put their clothes back on. She hasn't had any of them figure out how to pull off the underwear and they can't reach the tabs to take off the diaper. Hope that helps!
If the wetness is the problem more than the pj's we masking taped our son's diaper to him. I was tired of waking up in the morning with poo all over the crib and wetness to go with it so anytime before he went to bed I'd wrap the masking tape around his diaper a couple times. While he gave me the strangest looks when I was doing it he couldn't get it off and at under $2 it's the cheapest fix I've found. He still prefers to be naked all the time but he's learned that he can't get his diaper off anymore :) As for the pj's, when he learned he couldn't get the diaper off he quit messing with the jammas. I know a friend of my mother in laws that really had a problem with this and she would put jean overalls over the pj's, that is until her son learned how to work the clasp. Trial and error I guess :)
We have the same problem and we came up with a very cheap, simple solution (my husband thought of it actually...they do come up with good ideas every once in a while). I just put a safety pin right under the zipper. It works great!
I have a friend who put zip-up jammies backward on her toddler. Good luck!
My twins used to do this all the time and it was a HUGE pain and a real mess whenever they would take their diapers off. I got to the point where I had to have them wear the footie-type jammies with a snap at the top and a zipper down the front and I would put a safety pin right under the zipper so it could not be zipped down. Finally after awhile they got the idea that they couldn't open the jammies and they kind of just quit doing it!
This is probably a repeat but cut the feet off and put them on backwards. I have a 25 month old stripper man at my house right now :o)

Mom to 4 and soon one more through another adoption
I had the same problem with my twins but thankfully they did not take off their diapers. I used only the feet in zipper pj's. I would use a saftey pin and pin the zipper so that they could not open it. It worked wonders and found no unclothed twins again. Hope this helps.
Hi S.
My daughter did the same thing, the only thing that worked for us was to put a bathing suit on her,and put her pajamas on top. She also striped during the day so this helped to stop that also. Good Luck!! T.
We had this problem too. We switched to a onsie (you know with the snap at the crotch)and a pair of pj bottoms or sweat pants. This worked for a while, but eventually, he figured that out too. We now just keep checking on him until he goes to sleep. Once he's asleep, he tends to stay in bed.
Good luck, K.
Try Bonds all in one, no snaps or zips, button. Exactly what you need, but you'll have to order it online. http://www.bonds.com.au/bumpsandbaby/easysuit.aspx
S.,
Put the zip up footie pajamas on backwards and secure the zipper with a safety pin if you have to.
Good luck,
S.
Get the ones without feet and put them on backwards.
My sister had this problem with her son. She got those Gerber plastic training pants (tightfitting)and put them on over the diaper at night. That worked pretty well, as it was a lot more difficult for my Nephew to get under there and undo his diaper. Good luck.
We had similar problems. What we did was put a safety pin under the zipper so he couldn't undo his pajamas. Worked great!
Both of my kids did this too. We kept them in the one-piece footy PJs, but started putting onesies underneath them at night. This way they coudl unzip the PJs but couldn't unsnap the onesies, so no more missing diapers in the morning. (=

We had this problem with our little girl. We put her in zippered sleepers and used a safety pin to keep her from being able to unzip them! Hope that helps.
My son used to do that too, and for a while I resorted to putting his pj's on backward so that he could not reach the zippers or snaps. Thankfully we didn't have to do it for too long.
My daughter did this too. She apparently is a very "warm" person when she sleeps.(I only know this now that she is 4 & very vocal.)I would suggest 2 peice sleeper type jammies(with snaps at waist) and sew the front part of the waist band together. With the snaps only in back,he may not be able to get them off. (Or any type of back closing jammies w/ secure closures may work.)Also, put a onsie on him for atleast night time.If he gets the jammies off still, he may be too exhausted, that he'll give up on trying to get the onsie off.I hope it helps...
Also, is he in the potty-training stage? He may be telling you something else...
~S.
How about a couple of stitches of thread at the top of the zipper, just enough to keep it closed when he fiddles with it but not enough to be difficult to clip when you have to change him? It might take a minute or so to apply, but eventually he would learn that messing with the zipper is futile. This might carry you through until he's potty trained.
I'm 49 w/seven kids and we've seen it all.
Take the zippered p.j.'s cut off the feet and put them on him backwards. No access to the zipper!
Hi S.,
Did you try orel gel, a gel that you can rub on kids gums.

Preschool teacher
Maybe you could try using a pull up at night.
My son took his PJ's off too. We discovered it was because his feet were too hot in the sleepers, so we cut the feet or got PJ's without feet in them. He has not taken his PJ's or diaper off again!
Have you tried putting his pjs on backwards so that they zip and snap up his back. Makes it harder for him to undo them if he can't reach the zipper. Hope this helps.
Have you tried the wearable sleeping bags? You put it over pajama's and it usually zips from top to bottom. They make them for big kids as well as babies. I've also heard of people using duct tape on diapers if they like to take them off.
Good luck.
