Hi Moms,

My 1 year old son just had his 12 month check and the pediatrician sent us for a sonogram because of the possibility of one undescended testicle. At the sonogram, it appeared to me, the tech and their doctor there, that both testicles were located fairly high up (the doctor there said they were in the canal - I didn't think to ask what that meant at the time). Once our pediatrician got the results, he suggested we take our son to a urologist. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice/info on this? We are in the Baltimore area and our pediatrician suggested Chesapeake Urology out of St. Joe's Hospital and to see Dr. Marc Siegelbaum. Any information, advice about this type of issue or doctor suggestions would be great!

Thanks so much!

I don't know too much about the undescended testicle, other than the sooner you deal with it the better. But I did have to take my son to Dr Seigelbaum when he was younger and he and his office were very nice and answered all my questions. We were very pleased. hope that helps.

I can't address this actual issue, but I can tell you from experience that Chesapeake Urology is fantastic and that Dr. Siegelbaum is one of the best in town. Good luck!

We go to Dr. Ranjiv (Ron) Mathews at Hopkins as our pediatric urologist. We like the doctor but the clinic is very disorganized and a little difficult to communicate with. Scheduling is not fun either because it goes through the main hospital scheduling and since JHH is so huge it is challenging.
If your pediatrician recommended someone specific I would probably go with that recommendation. Good luck!

We had the same issue. I noticed that sometimes when I changed his diaper, my sons "balls" looked bigger than other times. At first I thought it was just my imagination, but they kept changing size and I contacted our pediatrician. Turns out, his testies did drop but the tube they come down through (from abdomin to exterior) is supposed to close up on its own usually by around 18 month (at the latest). He had one tube that didn't close all the way so there was a flow of fluid going up and down which was making his balls look bigger at times. It didn't hurt him at all and the enlargement was only minor - nothing outragious! Our pediatrician recommended Dr. H. Gil Rustiton - he's a pediatric urologist with Childrens Hospital. She said if her son needed the same surgery, she'd go to him. I love and trust our pediatrician, so I went straight to him.

He was fantastic. Great bedside manor for both my son and us!! I checked him out, great resume as well. When my son was about 2 1/2 yrs, we went to Childrens Hosp and he had the surgery. The tube hadn't closed at all and due to the "wide open space" it was then considered a hernia. Anyway, they closed everything up and he completely recovered in no time.

Just keep the incision clean (easy to get infected if they're still in diapers), but otherwise, he did a fantastic job.

He had a Laurel office - I honestly don't know if he's still there. This all happened 4 years ago. Anyway: Laurel office: ###-###-#### or DC (at the hospital) ###-###-####.

Good luck!!

J.
